00:00It's money taken out of my pocket and the pocket of all authors, and when you consider

00:06that the average income for an author in the UK is about £7,500 a year, it actually, every

00:13penny really matters. And so it's something that is really serious and really infuriating

00:21for authors, but also just a threat, a threat to this profession, even being able to continue

00:26to exist. We are, I think, at genuine risk of not having any books for people to actually

00:33pirate, at least not written by humans. I've devoted my whole life to this craft and to

00:39being the best writer that I can be, and the thought that somebody in Silicon Valley or

00:47wherever is taking that work to produce identikit fake AI versions of it is, yeah, it's upsetting.

00:58I think AI has so many benefits in certain fields. You know, if you're talking about

01:04like medical research, breakthroughs in stuff like that, then it's got the potential to

01:09be incredibly useful. And I think what needs to happen is we really need to give it some

01:17boundaries before it totally takes over.
