00:00President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth met this morning in Palacio de Malacañang.

00:09Secretary Hegseth made a courtesy call to President Marcos, who is part of his first official trip to Asia.

00:16President Marcos and Secretary Hegseth are expected to discuss their agreement on strengthening the Cooperation for Defense

00:24and security challenges in the region.

00:27The so-called agreement is expected to provide a strong military alliance between the United States and the Philippines.

00:36Meanwhile, PCO Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro responded to the statement of the Chinese Foreign Ministry,

00:43that the country is a chess piece.

00:45The statement was made by a Chinese official as a reaction to the increased earnings of the President and U.S. Secretary of Defense.

00:53According to Atty. Castro, the Philippines is an independent country and has not become a chess piece of other countries like the United States.

01:01Castro said that no one should interfere in the decisions or activities of our government,

01:07even though it is involved in military operations.

01:10According to Castro, China is better off obeying the international law and respecting the sovereignty of other countries.

01:21We are not. The Philippines is no one's chess piece. We are an independent country.

01:27So whatever we will do, whatever our project will be about our military operations,

01:37this is already up to us.

01:41No one can interfere here. We are independent.

01:45After the Philippines, the U.S. has decided to go to Japan to attend a ceremony to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the battle in Iwo Jima.
