UK Parliament Heated Debates On Delhi Riots

There's one parliament heatedly discussing the Delhi riots. And it isn't in India.

00:00This is in fact a continuation of sustained and systemic Hindutva violence.

00:06Incited mob violence in Delhi on the basis of someone's faith brings back painful personal memories.

00:12Stoking fear amongst all quarters of society across that country.

00:16It's heartbreaking to see the violence in India.

00:31Mr Speaker, we must learn from history, not be fooled by those whose insidious aim is

00:38to divide society, hell-bent on killing and destroying religious places, all in the name of religion.

00:45Persecution of Indian Muslims, many of whom have been peacefully protesting against the

00:50Citizenship Amendment Act, is utterly intolerable and that the police cannot just stand idly

00:55by or worse still be complicit, as is alleged by many victims and social activists, and

01:02that the perpetrators must feel the full force of the law.

01:06Calling the recent violence community clashes seeks to normalise a far more sinister event.

01:11India is now controlled by Hindutva supremist RSS ideology with strong historic link to

01:19the Nazi party and the current Prime Minister of India was a member of the RSS.

01:23What step is the Prime Minister taking to call out this discriminatory practice at the

01:27heart of the Indian government?

01:29Will the Minister join me in rejecting language of riots, clashes, protests and communal violence

01:37when this is in fact a continuation of sustained and systemic Hindutva violence waged on the

01:45Muslim and many minority ethnic communities in India that is sanctioned by Modi's BJP government?

01:53Those of us with significant Indian Muslim communities will have seen videos showing

01:58shocking orchestrated sectarian violence.

02:02Can I encourage the Minister to invite the Indian High Commissioner to his office to

02:06share with him the deep concern of so many of our constituents about their families and

02:12friends' current lives in India.

02:15And if there is one silver lining in this very dark cloud it is what one Gujarati Muslim

02:20said to me which is that he and his family now value even more than ever the pluralism

02:26and safety across faiths that this country provides.
