00:26Certain cultural ideas have impacted all genders.
00:50Gender is just one such thing, like we all experience it, no matter who you are, right?
00:54So, everyone has a point of view on it, and I think everyone should be able to voice it.
01:03I send these stories on the first Saturday of the month, and I kind of think them as
01:28your nice four-minute read with your cup of coffee in the morning.
01:32You have the time and the space to indulge in and sort of reflect on.
01:52My attempt with Boish is focused on profession, largely because I feel that is the first layer
02:00that I can easily unpack.
02:02That is the first layer where probably men would be receptive to understand because they're
02:09so hyper-focused on a professional identity, right?
02:13So I grew up in a rural sort of suburb in India, right?
02:17Boys like me, we were just trained to hyper-focus on a few attributes of life, right?
02:24Like money, social status, financial success.
02:27That is why I felt strongly about unpacking this first, that how patriarchy or your toxic
02:35masculinity impacts your professional side.
02:58Mothers, sisters, but they're not necessarily given spaces where they can engage naturally
03:07and freely with the other gender outside the family equation, right?
03:13We should figure out ways to cultivate safe spaces for young boys and girls to interact
03:21at least and get to learn about each other.
03:32We have largely substituted physical strength with financial and social strength at this
03:38point for boys.
03:39So what seems to me is that a lot of boys are now hyper-focusing or gravitating towards
03:47those attributes as signals of being macho or being masculine.
03:53You need to cultivate other aspects of life to live a fulfilling life.
03:58IQ is great, but develop EQ.
04:01In fact, developing EQ will probably raise your IQ.
04:04Take the freedom and the liberty to put your ideas out, no matter how wild or how preposterous
04:10they might be.
04:11And especially in today's world where, you know, in the age of internet, there should
04:18be literally no reason to hold your ideas to yourself.
04:24Use other modern mediums to push your identity and push your ideas out.
04:29You'll find your tribe.
