Katrina Kaif turns 36 today! For years, the actress has defended women in film and urged women to speak out against discrimination.
Transcript
00:00There's a different tone and a different sensitivity and a different language almost which a woman can bring to a film.
00:08And it's been some of my best experiences and I'm working with another female director as well this year.
00:16So I think it's all about women directors right now.
00:19There has been a big shift, especially since the time that I've started in the industry till now.
00:26There's been a very, very large shift in the perception of women, how a woman is being portrayed in films more commonly.
00:34Not just like the one-off film in the year.
00:37There's a lot of films with very strong female characters.
00:40A lot of films which are doing well where the female protagonist has got a very strong personality and independent mind.
00:50And I think that that's only going to keep growing and changing.
00:53And I think that's very important for not only our cinema but for the country and the way women are looked at.
00:59It is not okay to feel inferior or weak because we are not the weaker sex by any stretch of imagination.
01:09We may be more emotional but that is what makes us caregivers and mothers.
01:14The world has largely been led by patriarchal societies and women have through the years largely remained quiet in the face of atrocities rather than speak out against them.
01:26I would therefore like to pledge today that I will do whatever I can in my capacity to create awareness about gender equality.
