This Man Spent 24 Years in Prison For Nothing

This Kashmiri man was jailed for 24 years for a crime he did not commit. Here is the story of Mirza Nisar Hussain from Srinagar.

00:00After 24 years, I was released from jail.

01:30I was born in Kashmir. My father passed away and my brother needed me as a helper.

01:47My father used to work in Delhi with a carpet. Then I came here with my brother in 1990.

02:00We crossed the Sonoli border. There were a lot of gypsies.

02:18They put me in a cart and took me to Delhi, Lodhi colony.

02:29They kept me in Lodhi colony for 9 days.

02:34They didn't let me sleep or eat anything for 9 days.

02:40They used to give me a cup of tea or a piece of bread.

02:45They used to beat me up.

02:53They had already made up a story.

02:57They had already filed a case. They had already signed everything.

03:02They presented me in front of the court and the press.

03:08I was remanded for 14 days.

03:32They gave me a life sentence in Rajasthan in 2014.

03:43The case went on from 2014 to 2019 in Rajasthan High Court.

03:49I was in a state of despair in the jail.

03:52Thank God, a Punjabi lady judge came.

03:57She heard my case for 3 days, gave me a week's bail and released me on the 10th day.

04:04I tell my mother, don't say anything.

04:24I can't bear the pain that my family has caused me.

04:37At 2 am, my mother woke up and looked at me like this.

04:51She said, eat this.

05:01This life is more difficult than life in jail.

05:21There are a lot of problems.

05:23There is unemployment.

05:25May God give someone a life of unemployment.
