Villagers in Kayampur and Sona, Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, have initiated a crowdfunding project to build a bridge across Mangai River after years of government inaction.

00:06What do you do if a government doesn't listen to your needs?
00:10Well, people in a village in Uttar Pradesh
00:12seem to have decided enough is enough.
00:14So, they've decided to collect funds on their own
00:18to build a bridge that they've been trying
00:21to get the government to build for years.

00:37They waited for the government to build a bridge.
00:40But when no help came,
00:42the people of Kayampur and Sona villages in Ghazipur
00:46decided to take things into their own hands.
00:51They started building the bridge across Mangai river
00:54through crowdsourcing.
00:56The foundation of the bridge was laid on February 25th, 2024
01:01by Allahabad High Court Judge Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav.
01:19The work is being done under the supervision
01:21of a retired engineer.
01:25I would like to thank the man who retired from the military
01:30and contributed Rs 10 lakhs.
01:32He also called Shekhar and demolished the foundation of the bridge.

01:41At present, villagers use a temporary bamboo bridge
01:44which is rendered useless during rains.

02:45claim that the bridge is a proud example of self-reliance.
