Newcastle City Centre is expected to be very busy come Saturday as Newcastle United football
00:07
fans are lining the streets for the highly anticipated Open Top Bus Parade, followed
00:12
by further celebrations at the Town Moor. Fans hoping to partake in the Town Moor celebrations
00:17
were asked to register their interest and are now receiving their tickets via email.
00:22
The distribution is being conducted in phases and all tickets are expected to be issued
00:26
by Thursday evening at 5pm. However, it's important to note that registering interest
00:31
doesn't guarantee a ticket. Thankfully, the Open Bus Parade was confirmed on Monday, allowing
00:37
everyone to take part in this historic celebration. I caught up with Ben Whitfield from NE1 to
00:42
find out more about the event and why people should head into the city to celebrate together.
00:49
We're here, we're on the route. This is adjacent to where the parade will go past on Saturday,
00:54
hopefully with thousands of people lining the route and waving to the players. It's
00:59
going to be a short one from the stadium along this way to the Town Moor, but lots of space
01:04
for people to gather, lots of space for people to see their heroes and really let them know
01:08
how much it means to the city. I just think it's such a once in a generation event. It's
01:13
something that people will always remember, you know, where you were the day the whole
01:17
city came together to celebrate. We've seen the scenes from other cities and other countries
01:21
when things like this happen. It's so unique. I think everybody should want to be a part
01:26
of it. I think it's something that you'll remember forever.
01:31
The parade will begin at 4.30pm, starting from St James's Park. The bus will travel
01:36
down Gallowgate, turn onto Percy Street, proceed along the B1318 towards Gospath and conclude
01:42
at the Town Moor. To facilitate the parade, the following roads including Barrack Road,
01:48
Gallowgate, St James's Boulevard, Percy Street, Blackidge Street, Barras Bridge, St Mary's Place and Newbridge Street Westbound
01:56
will all be closed between 4pm and 6pm.
02:01
I think make the most of it. We've waited so long for something like this to happen.
02:05
Who knows how long we might wait for it to happen again. Really, you know, put you back
02:10
into celebrating. Come in early, stay late after the event, book ahead if you can. We're
02:16
hearing that a lot of places are getting very busy. But yeah, don't let it pass you
02:20
by. Come and be part of the celebrations. Come into the city and just feel this sort
02:25
of wave of celebration wash over you this weekend.
02:28
There are so many reasons. It's fantastic in terms of how the city looks from outside,
02:34
the pictures that will be beamed around the world of everybody celebrating. But I think
02:39
more importantly than that, on a ground level, it's going to be a huge day for businesses.
02:43
I think businesses will feel a tremendous uplift and they'll be able to give people
02:47
the experience that really sort of sears this event in their memory. It's not just the event
02:51
on the Town Mall, not just the parade, but it's what you do before and it's what you
02:54
do after and it's what time you finally get home.
