Charlie Brooker: Black Mirror has become easier to write in the more dystopian world

'Black Mirror' creator Charlie Brooker says the anthology series has become easier to write for in an increasingly dystopian world.

00:00No, because I don't know if you've looked out the window recently, but it's quite dystopian

00:15out there.

00:16No, I mean, yes, it has moved on a lot, and there's lots of things we did in early episodes

00:20that are now almost commonplace, or are now, have kind of become true.

00:26I think as technology gets more sophisticated, I think people's, the average person's everyday

00:34experience of technology is more sophisticated, so it probably means you can actually tell

00:38slightly more complicated stories.

00:40You don't have to explain the technology to the viewer so much anymore.

00:44So certainly it throws up constant new ideas all the time, I think, so we've got a season

00:50coming out, and I think there's quite a few ideas in there that I wouldn't have thought

00:54of ten years ago.

01:04It is, actually, in many ways, well last season it was sort of actually started out as a totally

01:08different, it was going to be Red Mirror, it was all going to be horror stories, and

01:12then I came up with one that very much wasn't, and I sort of backtracked.

01:15This time around, they're all sort of OG technology stories.

01:25I mean, I don't know, I won't be the judge of that, but ultimately if no one watches

01:31or someone pulls the plug, I mean, it's good for me, so I'd like to keep doing it, because

01:36it means I'm constantly challenged to come up with new stories, so it's a fun job for

01:43me, so I don't know until I drop dead or people get sick of it.
