00:00When you imagine skyscrapers, your mind no doubt conjures images of New York City or Chicago,
00:04but perhaps not for long. That's because a new American record for tallest building
00:09is currently in the works, and it's said to be built in an unexpected city.
00:13This is Oklahoma City, which doesn't have much of a skyline. However, the city of 700,000 people
00:18could soon be home to a skyscraper which eclipses all other buildings in the area, standing 1,907
00:25feet tall. The tallest structure there at the moment stretches 50 stories or 844 feet into the
00:31sky, meaning this one would be nearly twice that height. For reference, the American record holder
00:35for tallest building currently belongs to the One World Trade Center in New York City. The
00:39planned skyscraper in Oklahoma would extend some 131 feet taller than that. The proposed project
00:45includes four buildings, the tallest of which would be named Legends Tower. The tower's
00:50developer says that they have already secured the 1.5 billion dollars needed to fund the project.
00:54However, they still need myriad approvals and guarantee they can fill the three residential
00:59towers that accompany the tallest. So is there a drawback to building in OKC? Well, some say that
01:04a skyscraper in a plain state poses a risk, namely due to the region's tornado frequency.
