Mixed reaction to federal budget

There has been a mixed reaction to the federal budget. ABC News reporters in the regions have been out and about listening to what people think of the budget.

00:00Among the positive things, I just hope they're carried out and that it's not just over-optimistic

00:09promises, but the main thing I would like to see is just the help for the general cost

00:15of living for people in general.

00:16I think we've got to look at the broad picture of what our society needs, and education and

00:23health are so basic, very important.

00:25I'm very impressed. I don't blindly follow Labor, so I try to approach it from a balanced

00:35position, but I thought in difficult circumstances the Treasurer and the Finance Director, Cathy

00:46Gallagher, did a superb job.

00:48I felt that they tried to fund those groups in society who need it. I just felt that maybe

00:56some of the tax breaks should have been means tested, so those who don't need that extra

01:01money could have been spread to those who do.

01:05Well, I'm awfully happy with him. He could have given the pensioners a bit more help,

01:09helped more of the unemployed and people with children and things like that.

01:13The unemployed pensioners, carers and all, don't seem to get anything out of any budget,

01:19and it's been going on for years.

01:21Well, as far as the power part of the budget goes, that would help a lot of people who

01:27own share homes and renting homes out and that sort of thing.

01:31The discount on the power, that sounds like it would help us out a bit, yeah.

01:36Tax cuts will be good. The tax cut will be good, yes.

01:39I think the budget is unfair for the low-income earner people, and to the young people, to

01:46the elderly people. I mean, I'm heading towards retiree, and to me, really, bulk billing is,

01:56I think, is very important for us.

01:59It doesn't help me as a small business owner at all. What would? That the $20,000, where

02:07we can write it off and not be so far in, not going to say debt, but it makes it easier.

02:17Just more help for small business owners in regards to more tax cuts.
