Queensland government’s stadium plan draws mixed reaction

The Queensland government's revised stadium plan for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games is drawing a mixed reaction from the sporting world. Four-time gold medallist Cate Campbell says the announcement does provide certainty after years of delays.

00:00We have wasted time, and with time we waste money.

00:05Of course we do.

00:06There have been numerous reviews, there have been numerous reiterations of this plan, and

00:11what I find most disappointing is that it's allowed this really negative rhetoric to enter

00:17this space.

00:18And the Olympic Games is about bringing people together, it is about uniting the world, allowing

00:23peaceful competition, which isn't something that you can normally find in any other sphere

00:28outside of sport and outside of the Olympic Games.

00:31And we've seen these games become quite divisive, and I know that there will be people who are

00:36sitting at home thinking, oh my goodness, I'm going to be really impacted, there's going

00:40to be construction and roadworks.

00:42It is going to be short-term pain for long-term gain.

00:45I really think that when we had a look at the 100-day review and the plan that the government

00:52handed down, they have had a look and thought, what is going to be best for Queenslanders

00:56moving forward into the future, and ultimately that's what we want.

01:00We want our government of today to be building cities for tomorrow and for generations to

01:05come.
