The life of Pete Davidson

A proud Staten Islander and the inspiration for the phrase "Big D–– energy," he says comedy saved his life.    This is the story of Pete Davidson.

00:00What would happen to Pete if he, you know, or me, if we never found comedy?

00:04And I think tattooing minors in the woods is probably where I would be at.

00:26What's up guys?

00:28It's Pete Davidson.

00:29We are in my apartment slash basement in my mom's house in Staten Island.

00:35I moved here like a year ago and built this weird little basement to stay away from people.

00:42I am six years old.

01:04I have his badge number and I have a fire helmet with the 343,

01:10which is the amount of firefighters that passed away from 9-11.

01:17And those are two tattoos that I hold close to my heart and also were very healing for me to get.

01:22I was really fortunate enough when I was growing up that Kid Cudi was my hero and

01:40he was always very open and honest about his feelings and it made me feel like I wasn't alone.

01:53Comedy saved my life.

02:15I was recently diagnosed with borderline personality disorder,

02:20a form of depression, and depression affects more than like 16 million people in this country

02:26and there's no like cure per se.

02:33I can't believe it and yeah, I get it.

02:35She's the number one pop star in the world and I'm that guy from SNL that

02:39everyone thinks is in desperate need of more blood.

02:43Like if we break up and we won't, we will, but we won't.

02:50I was excited to work through these feelings because it's,

03:19it was very healing for me.

03:21It was something that's been weighted on my chest for a really long time.

03:27It happened when I was seven years old.

03:29So going, it's nearly almost 20 years now.

03:33I just really wanted to find the perfect way to explain my story and show a family that's

03:41gone through tragedy and it allowed me to heal on a personal level as well.

03:47My main goal in doing this was to be able to grow out of it and not necessarily forget

03:54about it, but be able to be a better person because of it and be able to stretch my legs

04:01and go into this world and have that part of my life behind me.

04:16So before he goes to laser each tattoo, you have to hear him announce what the tattoo

04:35is to make sure if you want to keep it or not.

04:37And I'll just hear, are we keeping the Stewie Griffin smoking a blunt?
