00:00I started because I had an idea for a story I knew I'd love to write and I knew I would love to read.

00:07And I think that's the best starting point for any story, any book.

00:31To quote Albus Dumbledore, which I am allowed to do,

00:36happiness can be found in the darkest places if one only remembers to turn on the light.

01:01I can remember some teachers thinking that I was good at story writing

01:05and I used to love it when my stories were read out to the class.

01:08It was my favourite thing.

01:10The longest story I ever wrote when I was eleven

01:13was a story about seven cursed diamonds, funnily enough.

01:17And there are echoes of that story, I suppose, in Harry Potter.

02:30It's impossible to overstate what Harry Potter was to me.

03:00Completely changed my life. Creatively, I loved it.

03:04It'll never happen again, to me anyway.

03:19I never started with a mission, but nothing makes me prouder than ever

03:23than to meet a child or the parent of a child who says,

03:26oh, he or she never read before Harry Potter. Nothing makes me prouder than that.

03:49Some orphanages are set up literally to exploit children.

03:52In other words, the children are the bait for foreign donations

03:55and the volunteer experience, and the money is going into the pocket

03:58of the people running the orphanages.
