U.S. Women's Soccer and equal pay: The fight continues

They have four World Cup titles and four Olympic gold medals. What they don't have is equal pay.  This is the U.S. Women Soccer team's long and ongoing fight for equal pay.

00:00If they win, no one wins. If we win, everyone wins.

00:04Equal pay! Equal pay!

00:06And pay them ladies, man. Pay them girls what they worth.

00:09This team is living proof you can be the very best and still have to fight for equal pay.

00:22Of course, people will always say, oh, did our men win equal? Sure.

00:25But when it has to come down to a check or, you know, actually putting your money where

00:30your mouth is, I think that's a little bit different conversation. That's a little bit harder.

00:45Pay disparity between the men and women is just too large and we want to continue to fight.

00:51The generation of players before us fought and now it's our job to keep on fighting.

01:08I loved it the other day when the women's soccer players, the women's soccer players

01:14sued for equal pay, right? After all, they have won, what, three world championships and the

01:19Olympics? They got a pretty good record.

01:50I think it's just everybody's, everybody's ready for it. Everybody wants it.

01:54Everybody's ready for the conversation to be moved to the next piece.

02:09For us to be in France at the World Cup and for the whole stadium to scream equal pay, equal pay,

02:14that, I'm goose bumps right now thinking about it. But this is obviously a very historical

02:18movement. This is a historical fight for every female out there who deserves equal pay with their

02:24male counterparts, no matter what career or field that they're in.

02:28Eventually we're going to win and it's going to happen.

02:38Thank you very much.

02:40We believe at U.S. Soccer

02:46that all female athletes deserve fair and equitable pay.

02:55And together, together I believe we can get this done.

03:00I'm going to endorse Carlos. I think he's with us. I think he's on the right side of things.

03:04I think he's going to make things right. We look forward to holding those feet to the fire.

03:09To see that as the argument, as sort of blatant misogyny and sexism,

03:39is really disappointing.

04:01I've been devalued. I've been disrespected and dismissed because I am a woman.

04:07And I've been told that I don't deserve any more than less because I am a woman.

04:17We're so often told in this country that if you just work hard and continue to achieve,

04:23you will be rewarded and rewarded fairly.

04:26It's the promise of the American dream, but that promise has not been for everyone.

04:38It's historical. I mean, I think not since like Title IX is this going to change,

04:47not just women in sports, but have people really looking at the equal pay issue.

04:51And we felt like we wanted to not just do it for the women in the film to make sure

04:55that the record gets set straight, because it feels like there's a big injustice there.

04:59I also think we just wanted to make sure globally, people around the world,

05:03girls, women especially, were able to see this and take inspiration

05:07for it to make sure they get value and investment in their own lives.

05:10Yes, we're discriminated against, but, you know, relative to most people, we're

05:14in a place of, you know, incredible privilege.

05:17And not many women have the ability to be in this place.

05:20So I think for us, it's become so much more than just our fight.

05:26It's about setting up the game in the next generation in a much better place.
