00:00If you have the talent and dedication to succeed in school and in sports, we'll provide the opportunity.
00:09I'm telling you, man, you have to check out the NCAA's video. It's so stupid.
00:25It's totally unrealistic.
00:26It almost made me cringe and laugh.
00:28Oh my gosh, no, this is absolutely not my experience as a student-athlete.
00:32Given the fact that he woke up, went straight to class, what about the early meetings? You go from working out, wake up, workout.
00:41Practice, conditioning outside of practice.
00:44No mention of 14-hour meets. There's no mention of championship season also colliding with finals.
00:52Film study, study hall.
00:55I'm telling you, it was nothing like what we did. This kid woke up and went straight to class.
00:59Where's the 5 a.m. workout? Where's the rush to get to class because you barely got a shower?
01:04There were days I would leave my room at 7 in the morning to make practice, and I wouldn't get back until 8 or 9 at night.
01:10At some points, it wasn't so much the actual actions that this athlete was doing, it was more the lackadaisical manner in which he was doing them.
01:18Balancing that amount of responsibilities as a student-athlete, it's one thing you can't afford to be.
01:24Being a collegiate athlete definitely has its perks and disadvantages.
01:43One of the main concerns and problems has been over the years is us not being able to put money into our pocket.
01:50We worked so hard for all these months leading up until March where you really want to be playing the best basketball, you really want to be in the tournament.
02:00And the NCAA just prides itself on making so much money off of these players that put the hard work and dedication on and off the court.
02:08I think it would be a lot more productive instead of videos that sort of glamorize what being a student-athlete is like,
02:15to really have more conversations with student-athletes about what they're facing, the challenges that they feel, if they feel successful or not,
02:22and finding better ways to support them so that they can feel proud of their college experience and all the different aspects of it.
