A day of chaos on the Capitol. Two different responses.

00:06I call on this mob to pull back and allow the work of democracy to go forward.

00:14At this hour, our democracy is under unprecedented assault, unlike anything we've seen in modern times.

00:29You've seen what happens, you see the way others are treated that are so bad and so evil.

00:41I call on President Trump to go on national television now to fulfill his oath and defend the Constitution
00:53and demand an end to this siege.
00:58To storm the Capitol, to smash windows, to occupy offices.
01:05The floor of the United States Senate rummaging through desks on the Capitol, on the House of Representatives,
01:13threatening the safety of duly elected officials.
01:15It's not protest, it's insurrection.
01:19An assault on the Citadel of Liberty, the Capitol itself.
01:26An assault on the people's representatives and the Capitol Hill police sworn to protect them
01:36and the public servants who work at the heart of our republic.
01:41You have to go home now, we have to have peace, we have to have law and order,
01:46we have to respect our great people in law and order.
01:50We don't want anybody hurt.
01:52The scenes of chaos at the Capitol do not reflect a true America, do not represent who we are.
02:02What we're seeing are a small number of extremists dedicated to lawlessness.
02:10This is not dissent, it's disorder, it's chaos.
02:16It borders on sedition and it must end now.
02:21It's a very tough period of time.
02:23There's never been a time like this where such a thing happened, where they could take it away from all of us,
02:30from me, from you, from our country.
02:32And this god-awful display today is bringing home to every Republican and Democrat and Independent in the nation
02:42that we must step up.
02:45This is the United States of America.
02:49There's never, ever, ever, ever, ever been a thing we've tried to do,
02:54that we've done it together, we've not been able to do it.
02:59So President Trump, step up.
