Autistic Nurse For Vaccinations

She's a nurse, she's autistic — and she wants the world to know that vaccinations don't cause autism.

00:00They don't want to give their child the measles vaccine, so they'd rather risk their child being dead than having autism.

00:19Back in 1998, there was a study that was printed in the British journal called The Lancet,

00:26and it was by Dr. Andrew Wakefield. While it scared the dickens out of everybody worldwide,

00:33it was allegedly showing a link between the MMR vaccine for the measles and autism.

00:39Well, as it turned out, over time, it was found out that it was a fraudulent study.

00:45In the year 2000, the United States declared the United States as totally eradicated of measles,

00:58but many people stopped getting the vaccination for their children, so then here it comes again.

01:03You're going to start having people getting sick and dying, and you know,

01:07mostly it is younger children that die, but older people and people who are immunocompromised

01:12can get some very serious complications and die as well.

01:31Now, when I hear parents talk about, you know, they don't want to have their child vaccinated,

01:36at first I would become not very pleased that that's how they feel, and I try and come down

01:41because I realize, you know, it's very stressful to have an autistic child, yet on the other hand,

01:46are they really saying that they don't want to give their child the measles vaccine,

01:51so they'd rather risk their child being dead than having autism? That really doesn't make us feel

01:56very good.

02:26As a person who's on the autism spectrum, I feel that knowledge is power for anything, whatever it is.

02:39If parents would just take the time to do some research, you know, take a couple hours on a

02:44Saturday morning, make yourself an espresso and sit there at your computer and google it and read

02:50one after another thing, that knowledge is going to give you the power to make the educated decision

02:55to go out and get your child vaccinated.
