A mom for everyone! She's offering her "mom" services to all LGBTQ couples whose parents won't stand at their weddings. ️️

00:00If you need a mom at your same-sex wedding because your biological mom won't be there,

00:07then call me.

00:15Well, it was really out of frustration by hearing from the community

00:20that their parents were not accepting or even acknowledging their relationships,

00:25the love of their lives.

00:31We have two sons. Harper's our youngest.

00:33He spent his whole life coming out to us, but when he turned 21, he met someone.

00:38And he said, Mom, I met someone and I really need you to be okay about it.

00:42I was taught this idea that you could not be gay and Christian.

00:46We live in a very conservative state.

00:49We got plugged into a conservative church early.

00:52When I tried to talk about it, they just didn't know how to minister to us,

00:55but it seemed like it was just full of alienation and separation.

00:59And it was devastating. It was devastating.

01:13I now believe that you can, in fact, be gay and be Christian.

01:17It was a journey for me.

01:18I say it's one that took us from the church to the pride parade without losing our faith.

01:26The goal of Free Mom Hugs is to, first and foremost, encourage the community

01:31that there are moms, friends, dads, and allies who love them.

01:36Secondly, to encourage parents to have authentic relationships with their kids.

01:41For the moms out there who are just hearing the words, Mom, I'm gay,

01:52For the moms out there who are just hearing the words, Mom, I'm gay, I'm a lesbian,

01:57I'm transgender, I'm not sure where I stand on the spectrum,

02:01I would just encourage you to know, number one, that you're not alone,

02:06that there's so many resources out there now to better understand your child,

02:13to celebrate them and help them understand who they are.

02:17And that way they'll be healthy, they'll have a healthy, happy life,

02:22and to celebrate that.
