Giving away PPE to health care workers fighting COVID-19

Health care workers still don't have the PPE they need as they care for Covid-19 patients.   These volunteers stepped in to help.

00:04How's the second week been?

00:06Let's pick it up. We already have three floors closed,

00:08the units are open, the units are full.

00:41Thank you so much. I tremendously appreciate it.

00:43The respirator that we got in our first kit,

00:46I used for many shifts during COVID.

00:50The additional gown, the hand sanitizer,

00:53it's been all put to great use.

01:00When it comes to medical facilities,

01:08for example, in lower income neighborhoods

01:10or serving underserved communities,

01:13oftentimes they don't have access to the funds

01:15they would need in order to basically equip

01:18their staff or even nursing homes,

01:20as a really good example,

01:22where the healthcare workers are still struggling

01:24with PPE and don't have the same access.

01:26I feel like we know so much about you

01:29and like, yeah, right?

01:37Thank you so much.

01:38Yeah, of course, yeah.

01:39Colleagues are good? Morale's good?

01:43Morale, I think, is the same.

01:44I think a lot of us are tired

01:46because we've been working throughout the pandemic,

01:49but we haven't stopped.

01:52In the health centers, that is still a problem

01:56as far as finding PPE and having the proper amount

02:01and the proper kinds of N95

02:03so that when we are seeing patients,

02:05because now we are seeing more patients in the clinic live

02:09and we're in the room with the patients,

02:11so it is still a problem for us to have to use N95.

02:16After I recovered, obviously, I was really grateful,

02:19but I also heard a lot of stories from my cousins

02:22who were really concerned about getting COVID,

02:24being that they were healthcare workers.

02:26I have seven cousins in the Tri-State area that are nurses.

02:29A lot of them are in the ICU.

02:31A lot of them are in the ER.

02:33So I wanted to try to help them.

02:35So I'm packing a PPE supply kit right now,

02:38and this is a multivitamin.

02:39And that is going to help me get through the day.

02:42So I'm going to go right into prep.

02:44And I'm generalizing a little bit.

02:46So I'll go ahead and put the tablet in.

02:48I'll go ahead and do a little bit of prepping.

02:50And then I'm going to go in and do your microbiome.

02:53I'll put your needs and health processing in.

02:56And then after I'm done with that,

02:59I'll go in and then I'll go to the lab again.

03:01So I'm packing a PP supply kit right now and this is what we put into it. We have two face shields,

03:08reusable isolation gown, reusable surgical cap here, protective goggles, glasses, also protective,

03:17five ear savers, two of these 3M N95 masks.

03:53every day when I go to work, I feel like a sheep going to slaughter. My colleagues and I are writing

03:59our last will and testament. I'm 28 years old. I remember reading and hearing all this news

04:05about healthcare workers not having the proper access to PPE and I just remember thinking how

04:11unfathomable it was to essentially have all these essential workers on the front lines

04:16treating COVID patients, potentially putting themselves at risk as well as putting their

04:23loved ones at risk when they went back home and them not having access to PPE. So for me,

04:28that's personally why I was motivated and driven to co-found PRI. Yeah, you guys have like almost

04:33hundreds of people here. It's amazing. It's great. Every time we come here, we're like,

04:37oh, how did you find out about us? They're like, oh, we're not even told. I hope you guys don't

04:40mind me telling everybody. No, no. We actually, over at PRI, we call you a champion, a PRI champion,

04:45because honestly, that's what you've been. I've done over 400 deliveries myself and I always asked

04:51him, how are you doing? What I've heard has been so inspiring, you know? Yeah, they're really scared,

04:57there's a lot of anxiety that they go through. Some of the healthcare workers I've supported

05:00have came down with COVID themselves, but they always remember why they became healthcare

05:06workers in the first place, because they genuinely care about the community. And we just wanted to

05:10show to them that there is another community out there that does care about them as well.
