A day with America’s first Olympic skateboarding champion, Jagger Eaton

He competed at the Olympics with his AirPods on... And became the first American to win an Olympic medal in skateboarding.   Brut spent an afternoon with Jagger Eaton at a New York City skatepark.

00:00One of the biggest things in skateboarding is when you fall, you got to get back up.

00:04Oh, I fell!

00:15Are y'all from here?

00:31Right now we're at Lower East Side Park, LES, one of my favorite parks in the world.

00:36I haven't skated here in a few years, really excited.

00:39To take home the first medal for USA is huge.

00:43I mean, that was the main goal going in, to be on that podium.

00:46And that's what we got, and I'm stoked, I'm so fortunate.

00:49I've always wanted to compete for my country, it's always been the main goal.

00:51And yeah, I'm just stoked to take it home.

00:53I think that it's really important for skateboarding to be on the Olympic stage

00:57because it brings a lot of legitimacy to the sport.

00:59You know, skateboarding is so beautiful, it's such an art form, so creative.

01:03But again, for skateboarders like me who are really competitive,

01:05that really want a bigger competition, it's everything we could ever wanted.

01:24I was listening to a lot of old country and new rap music.

01:27I've said that in every interview, but it's really true.

01:56I mean, hopefully they know that skaters are messing with the man.

01:59You know, Carti's someone that's really inspired me.

02:01Blake Shelton is a random one I don't think a lot of skaters listen to,

02:04but I love him. Great dude.

02:06And yeah, I hope they get to see that.

02:08I listen to music every second of the day.

02:10I wake up to music right in the middle of the day I listen to music.

02:14Before I go to sleep, I listen to music.

02:16I listen to music all the time.

02:20Yes, so I got my name Jagger from both my parents.

02:23And their first date was a Rolling Stones concert.

02:28I got into old country music just because of where I was raised.

02:30I was raised in Arizona. I'm full-on country.

02:32So I grew up on that, and then old new rap is something I really gained from skateboarding.

02:37The beat and the culture and the artistry kind of really grabbed me,

02:41and I really just started falling in love with it.

02:44I got a skateboard when I was four years old for Christmas,

02:46and me and my brother both just fell absolutely in love with it.

02:49And I feel like I fell in love with it because of the freedom that it offers me.

02:52I mean, even to this day, you know, there's a lot of responsibilities.

02:54I'm trying to be good at adulting. I'm still terrible at it.

02:57But again, skateboarding offers me, you know, freedom for life.

03:03I've dislocated and broken this elbow twice.

03:06Really? Alright, alright. Are you guys worried about that?

03:09Like, getting older? Or is it just part of the game?

03:11It's in the game. It's in the rules. Move on after.

03:14One of the biggest things in skateboarding is when you fall, you gotta get back up.

03:18I mean, it's just perseverance and you gotta keep going.

03:20And that's what I love about skateboarding.

03:43I feel like in skateboarding the biggest things to face your fears. We're all nervous about falling even to this day

03:49I'm still scared of falling and

03:50It's just something you get comfortable with and it's something you learn how to do if that makes any sense
