A day in the Olympic village

00:00Waking up in Olympic Village.

00:02Finally in the Olympic Village.

00:03So we just got to the Olympic Village.

00:05First evening in the Olympic Village.

00:12First things first, saliva test.

00:14Then I went downstairs and grabbed a coffee from BK Cafe.

00:18I got an iced almond latte because it's really hot here in Japan.

00:22Got up around 8, brushed my teeth, of course.

00:24Today was raining, luckily we had these umbrellas.

00:27Had some breakfast at the dining hall.

00:29It was pretty crowded this morning.

00:30All the athletes eat in this huge two-story food hall

00:34that's open 24 hours a day.

00:36Obviously, the Japanese is super popular with lots of good sushi options.

00:40Then you find a place to sit, sanitize your area,

00:42take off your gloves and eat up.

00:44Deep-fried Camembert.

00:46I'm so excited.

00:47Okay, cheers.

01:00Got on the bus to go to the High Performance Center.

01:02Had a quick training at the Team USA High Performance Center.

01:04Mitch ripped this serve.

01:05I'm not sure if it was in or out.

01:07Got a quick lift in for our match tomorrow

01:10and then went to lunch.

01:11The pad thai was delicious.

01:13Now it's spring roll.

01:16Now, ramen.

01:21This is how we keep COVID safe in the Olympic Dining Hall.

01:24First, we sanitize, then put these gloves on before we eat.

01:27We go and grab one of these trays.

01:28Each individual tray has been sanitized and washed.

01:31As we walk around, obviously, we've got our masks on.

01:34In every little cubicle, there are disinfectant wipes,

01:37so we wipe down everything that we're going to touch.

01:39The screen, the sides of the chair, everything.

01:42It makes mealtime conversations pretty difficult

01:44because it's hard to hear through them, but it keeps us safe.

01:47We have a team rule that once the mask is off,

01:49you only have 10 minutes to eat to reduce exposure.

01:53That you never knew condoms could be used for kayak repairs.

02:04Here's a reenactment of a how all my condoms are going to go.

02:08And we're going to clean them three times.

02:11And then we're going to take them out.

02:13And then we're going to wash them and put them in the closet,

02:15and then wash them, and then put them back.

02:17And then we're going to clean them.

02:18It's a preventative way of cleaning.

02:36In the Olympic Village, there's an area called the International Zone,

02:39where lots of athletes can make their mark and sign their name onto these wooden blocks

02:44that's going to stay here forever.

02:45We went into video to scout Tunisia for tomorrow's match.

02:48Back on the bus to go back to the Village, I was exhausted this afternoon.

02:51Watched some volleyball, ate some dinner at the dining hall.

02:54Of course, I had more Asian food. It's the best.

02:56Watched some more video and went to bed. Go Team USA!

03:00First evening in the Olympic Village, got my athlete credential made

03:03and was driven to the building where the South African athletes are staying.

03:12And to prove it's strong, I'm going to jump on the bed.
