"Dalí Lives" is a new exhibit bringing the surrealist painter back to life using artificial intelligence technology — and takes selfies. Special thanks to The Dali Museum.

00:13This technology allows people to imagine for a moment

00:17that there is such a thing as immortality,

00:19to see Dali alive again.

00:21I saw Dali, but like his actual form,

00:26full figure, speaking personally to me.

00:29Amazing.

00:42Almost 30 years.

00:45I in life always believed the desire to survive

00:49and the fear of death were artistic sentiments.

00:56I understand that better now.

00:59Even though Dali's been gone for 30 years,

01:02we're using artificial intelligence to bring him back today.

01:05In order to actually train this AI to reproduce Dali's likeness,

01:10we've started with finding the right footage of Dali

01:13and then we split that up into frames where he's looking the right way

01:17and we pick the best frames to use for training from that.

01:21Our system learns exactly what he looks like

01:23and how his mouth moves and how his eyes move

01:26and his eyebrows and every little detail about what makes Dali, Dali.

01:44This is actually a recreated version of Dali.

01:47It's not a person playing Dali with makeup.

01:50It is actually Dali.

01:52We're very careful to use his words

01:54so that you learn a lot about what he thought and the way he thought.

02:35What that adds is a sense of emotion.

02:38If they can empathize with this man as a human being,

02:42then they can relate to the work much more directly, much more passionately.

02:51and this technique allows visitors of the Dali Museum to do just that.
