Exploria in Southsea opens a second sensory room.

00:00I'm Matthew Williamson, Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing, Health and Care at Portsmouth City Council.

00:04Lovely, tell me about today and where we are and what we're doing here.

00:08So it's fantastic to be here for the opening of Explorers New Century Room.

00:14I'm really, really proud to be part of the team that funded this.

00:19It comes from the Public Health Transformation Fund and we had the bid that came in

00:27from BH Live and Explorer itself and we funded it because it makes a real difference to people

00:34with additional needs and their families.

00:38And what's the action be like for getting another sensory room here at Explorer?

00:43Well it's fantastic, it just opens up more opportunities for people with additional needs,

00:49for young people with additional needs to be able to enjoy a place like Explorer

00:55and make the most of their day.

00:57And tell me, has it been a long time coming this project?

01:00It has, we had the bid some time ago and we approved the funding but as with these things,

01:06it takes a bit of time and also to make sure it's absolutely right and I'm absolutely thrilled with this facility.

01:13It's fantastic and will make a real difference to people in the city.

01:18As I said this is from the Public Health Transformation Fund, the funding came for this

01:22and that's myself as the Cabinet Member but also our Director of Public Health,

01:28Helen Atkinson and our then Head of Finance, Federal Social Care and Public Health, Richard Webb.

01:35We're so thrilled that this is now in place and will make a real difference

01:39to families in the city for many years to come.
