00:00We are pretty cornered out, corner pocketing this week at Anaheim.

00:18Tell the people what your name is and where you're from.

00:21My name is Aaron Simino, I'm from Reno, Nevada, and this is my first Supercross of the year.

00:27Sick man, so you're pretty much privateer dreaming right now, you got a truck, bike

00:31in the back, bike here.

00:33Yeah, actually this is like a three day put together scramble of things and then on top

00:40of everything else this was the first day I rode a Supercross track and the first day

00:45I rode this bike and we missed it by like I think a couple tenths of a second, so not

00:50too bad for just rolling off the couch.

00:51How many years have you been pro?

00:53Well I've done Supercross for three years, this will be my fourth season, but I had a

01:00three year hiatus of just injuries and other things that just didn't seem to work out.

01:05So coming to Anaheim, you said you didn't do any other rounds.

01:10This is the first round.

01:12What made you choose Anaheim 2, how did it come together?

01:15What made me choose, I wanted to do Phoenix originally, but just with the time frame and

01:19the way everything came together, it just wasn't going to be good for Phoenix, so I

01:24chose to do A2, which is not my best choice considering that the format is like it is.

01:30It's a lot harder to get in on this one.

01:32So you're 250, 450, 250 class, number 360, so dude you're literally like, you got some

01:43oil in the back of your truck, you got a tool kit, what's it like?

01:48We have a tool kit thanks to my good buddy Jay Hatchett, because my toolbox actually

01:52got stolen this morning at my hotel room because I just wasn't thinking, and that's just the

02:00way the world is I guess.

02:01Damn, so how'd that happen to you?

02:03Well I just backed it up to my door, didn't think anything of it, and I got up in the

02:06morning, I'm searching around, trying to move things around so I can load these bikes, and

02:09I'm looking at them like, hmm, there's no toolbox, what?

02:14And I asked around, I asked my mom, I asked my mechanic, and he's like, I have no clue.

02:19So I called a buddy of mine, which is Jay Hatchett, and he was racing tomorrow for the

02:22amateur stuff, and he was like, hey, what's wrong?

02:26And I go, I don't have a toolbox, can I come borrow yours?

02:29And I was like, in return I'll have you be my mechanic for the day so you can get some

02:32seat time for the track, and he's like, okay.

02:35So luckily Jay Hatchett came through and was my mechanic through the practices, and hopefully

02:40we can go to Oakland next weekend and put her in the night show and definitely show

02:44some people what we're here for.

02:45Yeah, so like, what is your goal for the year, like are you a guy that just wants to follow

02:50as many rounds as you can, or it's hard being a prime tier?

02:54It's ridiculously hard, especially with the way everything works, not a lot of options

02:59we get.

03:00So, goal is to do the last three before the big break, and then hit, hopefully Seattle,

03:08definitely going to have to miss Houston, that's just too far of a drive with the way

03:12financial stuff is.

03:13And then hit Salt Lake City, and hit Vegas just for fun, because that's not a points

03:18paying race for AMA.

03:21But the goal for this season is just to kind of reinstate my license and do everything

03:25like that so I don't have to do the future All-Stars next year.

03:29But that's the goal, is just make as many races as I can, make sure my spot is secure

03:33so next year we can come in and hammer harder.

03:35Yeah, yeah, and how old are you?

03:3725.

03:3825, so how, you said you did it for some years, took some time off, do you work a normal job

03:45at home?

03:46What do you do to pay the bills?

03:47Yeah, I do a 40 hour a week, I leave Friday night, come here, try to make it in the night

03:51show, and then drive home Sunday and start on Monday.

03:54Gnarly, dude, what do you do for work?

03:55I work at Renown Hospital, I am their material solutions warehouse distributor.

04:01That's pretty cool, so do you tell people what you do on the weekend and they're like,

04:05you're nuts?

04:06I've told a couple people and they just think that I go out on a Sunday and just go trail

04:10ride and then I show them videos and they're like, you really do that?

04:14Yeah.

04:15You do that with no practice?

04:16Yeah.

04:17And you, that's the thing, working full time, that doesn't allow you probably to train like

04:25these guys?

04:26My family actually supports me as much as they can and I try to incorporate as much

04:31training as I possibly can in my program so basically when I get up at five, I'm on the

04:35road bike for a half an hour doing my stuff and then I go to work, come home, do the weights

04:40but you know, like everything, you got to be on the bike and that's one of the areas

04:45that I'm a little gray on at the moment.

04:47But hopefully for the six week break, we'll get some weekends off and be able to get more

04:51time on the bike, get it better set up and then definitely get better in these main events.

04:55For sure and it's funny, like the track I saw in first practice was pretty gnarly, like

04:59huge whoops.

05:00Those whoops were dangerous and I'm coming off the couch so they were really dangerous

05:04for me but like, even like the premier guys, the guys that have the $40,000 suspension,

05:11they were having trouble on them so that to me shows that they were having a real tough

05:15time.

05:16Yeah, I saw a lot of guys going around them.

05:17Yeah, I didn't thank God, I was motoring through, I was doubling but you know, yeah, a lot of

05:22people were going around and then not only that, the track this weekend was I think more

05:26technical than all the other ones because you don't really get a lot of error.

05:31Yeah, and it's drying up mud too.

05:34Yeah, and it was tacky in some spots, slick in others so there was a lot of factors to

05:38the track today.

05:39Yeah, and you said you missed it by just a hair, right?

05:41Missed it by I think a tenth of a second I do believe.

05:43To get into the LCQ and at least make some money but you know what, the only thing that

05:49I can say I regret not doing is just getting that tenth of a second, that's it.

05:54Everything else up to this point has been a blessing and with all the sponsors coming

05:56on board so late and everyone that's put into the program, I really appreciate all you guys.

06:02Definitely got to thank all my sponsors that helped me out and helped me get here, Kawasaki

06:05of Reno especially, they're the ones that gave me this bike to do this season and without

06:10them this program wouldn't even come together so a big shout out to them and all the other

06:14sponsors too like Factory Vacuum making sure this thing looks good, Dunlop for the tires,

06:19Turbis for the plastics that I tend to break a lot, Work Connection, Vortex handlebars,

06:24Dirt Trick sprockets which is really, really great and also some of the chains that Vortex

06:29sells is their 3D chains so those are really great and yeah and then also definitely a

06:34big shout out to Fly Racing for hooking me up with all the gear and everything that I

06:39really need to be successful.

06:41Yeah and is that a spare, like do you have a spare bike or is that your buddy's bike?

06:44This is actually, so this bike was given to me by Kawasaki and that bike is my 2012 KX250F

06:52that I had, that is actually the first bike that I did supercross on so we just refurbished

06:57it and got her cleaned up and it's been the practice bike ever since.

07:01That's cool man.

07:02Yeah.

07:03Like you said you got a pretty, it's pretty basic, it's all you need though to come out

07:05here and have fun right?

07:06Yeah I mean the main goal is to have fun for sure but it's also to better the situation

07:11which is get more support, hopefully get a ride but yeah definitely and this is even

07:16a rented truck, I just drive a 1989 single cab GMC so and it's a manual nonetheless so

07:22I drive this stick.

07:23That's rad.

07:24So you rented this thing to make sure you made it?

07:27Basically yeah.

07:28That's cool dude.

07:30And you're, but you're underneath the Anaheim A and you can watch some good racing tonight.

07:33Yeah I can definitely study, learn, and develop from here so that's a positive note for sure.

07:38That's cool and you said you guys got some people here supporting you.

07:40Yeah I got my girlfriend's family who came out and was supporting me today so that's

07:45cool and then my mom and me drove down so she's always cool and supporting me and dad

07:49is working weekends now to help support as well so everything is, everything's coming

07:54around nicely.

07:55That's cool man, you guys are the core part of the sport you know, it's good to talk to

07:58you.

07:59It would be nice if we got a little bit more extra cheddar but you know what, I'm not complaining

08:02about that, it's just all about getting out there and being in the show.

08:36a half and get on it for the first time with the suspension, my son did an amazing job

08:42and I'm very, very, very proud of him and his father's going to be in Oakland next weekend
