A gang of criminals stole nearly £500,000 or 646.5 thousand dollars in a sophisticated scam targeting clinics, care homes and hospices. Ringleaders Darren Wykes and George Quinn carried out 46 burglaries over a two year period, stealing wallets and purses from staff rooms and using deception to gain access to bank details. 00:35be from the bank.
00:36They tricked victims into revealing their PINs by claiming their cards needed security
00:41measures.
00:42Once obtained, another gang member immediately used the stolen details to purchase high-value
00:48goods or foreign currency.
00:51This was a sophisticated operation, said Detective Sergeant Petty, who's working the case.
00:57These unscrupulous fraudsters targeted hard-working people doing their utmost for their local
01:03communities, using every trick in the book to deceive and manipulate their victims.
01:09The gang, all from Coventry, England, admitted to 46 counts of burglary and fraud at Lincoln
01:16Crown Court.
01:17Weix was sentenced to five years and five months, while Quinn received five years in
01:23prison.
01:24Other members were given 21-month sentences, and the police are now seeking to recover
01:29the stolen funds through the Proceeds of Crime Act.
