Deacon Blue call for artists to 'wake up' to potential danger of AI in music

Deacon Blue's Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh have voiced their concerns about the UK Government's planned changes to AI copyright laws.

00:00Yeah, I think that, you know, yesterday's Silent Album that came out and so on, I think

00:28that was a really good thing.

00:29I think, you know, musicians have got to wake up and, you know, fight back because all these,

00:34you know, when I started in public, for example, when I started in songwriting and publishing,

00:39it was common then for publishers to have 50% of royalties.

00:43You know, we all fought, we fought back against these things.

00:46Things don't happen by osmosis, you know, so it's important for musicians to take charge

00:51of their career and for the music industry to kind of look and see what the future is

00:55and make sure that you're protecting songwriters' rights.

00:59So yes, it's really important, I think.

01:09It's a scary time across, you know, across all these things and it's such a, it's such

01:14a new world that no one really quite knows.

01:16I mean, there's great things, but yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm very excited about what's

01:20going to happen in terms of medical stuff and so on.

01:23But I think, yeah, I think it's, I think we've got to wake up and be quite, quite...

01:36You know, strong enough to be up there.

01:37It has to be regulated, doesn't it?

01:38I mean, it can't just be unleashed, which it seems to be.

01:53But yeah, we need to be very careful.
