Macron announces Ukraine 'coalition of the willing' summit

European leaders are preparing for a summit in Paris with President Zelensky to finalise short-term support for the Ukrainian army and discuss long-term security guarantees.

00:00We will hold a summit of the Coalition of Volunteers next Thursday in Paris in the presence of President Zelensky,

00:08and we will finalize our work on short-term support of the Ukrainian army,

00:13on the defense of a sustainable and sustainable Ukrainian army model to prevent Russian invasions,

00:20and on the security guarantees that the European armies can provide.

00:24What is happening is that this European pillar of NATO is strengthening,

00:28and that says we must take more part in our own security,

00:31we must take more part in the security guarantees tomorrow in Ukraine,

00:35and we must take more autonomy in our capacities, in the way we are equipped.

00:40And so this is an advance, but it is not a weakening of NATO,

00:43I have always defended this idea, the European pillar of NATO,

00:46it is simply a better distribution of the burden,

00:50and it is to recognize that the Europeans must do more for themselves.

00:55We have, of course, again dealt with the situation in Ukraine.

01:01The Russian invasion war is unchanged and is taking place with great brutality.

01:06And that is why it is very, very important that here,

01:09also in the conversation with President Zelensky,

01:12it becomes clear that the European Union,

01:15and quite explicitly 26 of the member states,

01:19are standing on the side of Ukraine.

01:22They can rely on us, we will not leave them alone.
