State government secures future of Symmons Plains with $6 million deal (21/3/24)

00:00I'm here at Simmons Plains Raceway here in the heart of Tasmania

00:04after the Tasmanian government evinced Tasmania and supercars came to an agreement,

00:08a four million dollar agreement, to keep supercars racing here at Simmons Plains for

00:14another three years until 2027. Another 1.8 million has been invested into the race track to

00:21maintain its standards and hopefully potentially even improve some of the amenities and other race

00:27day experiences for the fans. So supercars is here to stay until the end of 2027.

00:34Yeah it's very special to be able to come home and race. You know I haven't raced at home for

00:38three years so we travel the country everywhere you know these guys even go to New Zealand,

00:42I don't get to unfortunately, but it's very special to finally bring the car down home and

00:46show everyone you know what I've been doing over the past few years. You know a lot of people

00:49follow it but no one gets to really see it, only a few people do, so to be able to do that in front

00:53of all my you know friends and family would be something very special. Yeah I think it's always

00:57action-packed here at Simmons Plains and down at that hairpin is always the tightest corner in the

01:01country so to be able to come here in Super 2 which is a crazy category for racing I'm excited

01:06to be able to see what I can do and you know use a bit of my local knowledge and see if that will

01:09pay off. Tasmania has a really proud history in motorsport you know just down the road at Longford

01:14we ran the Grand Prix for a long time we've had you know touring cars here at Simmons Plains for

01:19decades and decades so very keen to see that continue and really pleased to see the investment

01:26by the government.
