Punjab Police clear Shambhu Border, farmers detained

Punjab Police have cleared the Shambhu border, a site of farmer protests for the past year. DIG Harman Veer Singh stated that approximately 150-200 farmers were present when the operation began.

00:00It's a big move by Punjab, government and Punjab police, Shambhu border which was in

00:05the eye of the storm for the past one year or so is now being cleared.

00:10What we see around us, not just posse of policemen but also a large number.

00:15What is the plan of action we have with us, the DIG Harman Bir Singh, let's just have

00:19a word with him.

00:20Sir, you've actually sprung a surprise at a time where talks were going on with the

00:26centre, the moment they came out some of the leaders were arrested.

00:30What is the action plan, what instructions have been given out by the government?

00:34So there is no such instructions that there should not be any use of force.

00:41So we have totally gone by the procedure.

00:45We appealed to our Kisan brothers that their Dharna is illegal and unlawful, they should

00:52remove it.

00:53So they agreed to our appeal and they have taken away their unlawful Dharna.

00:58So some of them have literally surrendered before us and some of them they want we should

01:05be sent to our homes back and we are arranging the transportation.

01:09How many farmers were present here when the force came in?

01:12They were approximately I think 150 or 200 approximately.

01:19A lot of them have literally gone to their houses back.

01:25So a lot of them have agreed to our appeal, 40 to 50 they were detained but now they are

01:33also saying that we should be released and we want to go back to our homes.

01:38If anybody wanted that he should be arrested, so we will follow the procedure.

01:48Has it been an uphill task, do tell us because you know what we see is a lot of policemen.

01:52What is the plan as far as opening up of Shambu border is concerned because what we see is

01:58a huge number of tractors and trolleys.

02:00How many numbers are there and how many days will it take to really clear this?

02:05From our side this will be cleared in next one or two hours.

02:11With the tractor and trolleys?

02:12With the trolleys and tractors we are going to… only trolleys are here, tractors we

02:16have you know hired.

02:17We are going to you know take these trolleys to a yard we have already earmarked.

02:22So illegal just construction or just structures are here, we are going to demolish them following

02:30the proper procedure and this from our side it will be, this road will be totally cleared.

02:37One final question, every time farmers have called out or given out a call there have

02:41been thousands of farmers up to 550,000.

02:44In that case what really happens?

02:47What is the preparation for that?

02:51About you know law and order whatever Kisan gave a call.

02:56So we will see intelligence agencies are there, we will get all the inputs.

03:02So as per their planning we will you know all the arrangements will be, we will put

03:07our arrangements in place.

03:09So as of now will you say that Shambu border is farmer free?

03:13Totally free.
