Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan is desperate to pass tough new bail laws

00:00These tough new bail laws include measures that will start immediately.

00:05Measures that will start immediately, and our justice system has the capacity for these changes.

00:11When these changes come into place, should the parliament make that decision at the end of this week,

00:16for these measures to come in place as soon as the bill is passed.

00:20We've just got the legislation last night and we haven't gone through the bill briefing.

00:23So you didn't read it last night?

00:25I did read the bill last night, but we still haven't had the bill briefing.

00:29And in that bill there is also some exemptions in there, and we want to make sure that those exemptions,

00:33that we aren't making any amendments to make it tougher.

00:36I attended a bill briefing yesterday afternoon, and in fact Michael O'Brien's colleagues were on the briefing.

00:43I had started the briefing with his colleagues.

00:47His colleagues wanted to hear about the bill and wanted the briefing.

00:52We had commenced that briefing when he then joined the call and chucked his tantrum,

00:59and advised his colleagues to get off the call.

01:03They were in shock, I think, as much as everyone else on that call.

01:07The briefing was then re-offered again in the evening.

01:11I understand that Michael may have been out to dinner.

01:15However, the bill was provided to them.

01:18I also briefed other parties last night as well.
