John Abraham speaks about his modelling experience and how it helped him to get into films

John Abraham talks to Shreya Srivastava about how modelling has become a challenging industry in 2025.

00:00You know, you had models that had personalities that could stand out and I probably, John Abraham was the last of those.

00:05A lot of people know you came into acting through modeling.

00:08You'd won the Gladrags competition, which was big back in the day.

00:12But why do you think that has changed? A lot fewer models are able to get into acting now.

00:17So because models don't have a personality today, you know, in my time, you had an Arjun Rampal,

00:24you had a Milind Soman before me, you had a Deepak Malhotra before that, you had a Dino Moria,

00:29you had models that had personalities that could stand out and I probably, John Abraham was the

00:34last of those. After me, what happened was everybody got into modeling to get into films.

00:39There were no supermodels left anymore. Especially male models, super male models.

00:44Also, actors started taking all the endorsements from the models. So the models didn't have

00:51anything left for them. So I feel it's a dire strait right now and I feel it's very

00:59important to be educated. So if people, like I'm a prisoner of my image here, people look at my

01:05body. It's great. They must, it's fine. And I will flaunt it. It's a good, cool thing.

01:10But imagine, like you said, if you know what's happening in the world outside when people are

01:15looking at your body, but you're telling them, hey, listen, my mind's ticking. I think it's a

01:18cooler thing. Then the body dissolves a lot sooner because people take one look at you,

01:22the second minute they're not talking about your body, they're talking about something else.

01:26Absolutely. So I think you have to stand for other things in life as well and not to make a

01:31philanthropic statement, but it's nicer to stand for things that are really cooler in life, like

01:37protecting the environment or protecting animals or protecting humans. This race that we all love.

01:44Absolutely. Do you feel connected to the fashion industry at all these days?

01:48Yeah, I mean, I love fashion. I totally dig fashion. I am connected with a lot of people.

01:56Unfortunately, I lost one of my closest designer friends, Rohit Bal.

02:01And it's heartbreaking. But I am connected with them, with everybody on earth.
