00:06and it was much deserved. Liverpool were lacklustre from the start, Newcastle were excellent.

00:11Liverpool couldn't cope with the intensity that Newcastle set out with from the outtest.

00:17Liverpool, yeah, they look jaded, they look fatigued, they look like a team who are running out of steam a little bit

00:27and if they didn't have such a clear gap at the top of the Premier League table, you would be wondering

00:34are they going to run out of steam or are they going to start slipping up?

00:39Luckily enough they have 12 points, a real healthy lead ahead of us.

00:44But yeah, Newcastle were excellent ending their 70-year wait for a trophy.

00:51Yeah, what can I say about Liverpool, they were poor to a man today.

00:57Maybe Harvey Elliott off the bench did well, but apart from that, you're scrabbling around.

01:04Newcastle were excellent in the first half, they didn't have any real chances.

01:09You thought Liverpool were just going to get in over the line, a hard time,

01:13Arnold Slott may be able to adjust, but the goal came in the 45th minute.

01:21Dan Byrne left an ace of space on the edge of the bottom of the corner.

01:26It was a fantastic header from Dan Byrne.

01:28People were looking around questioning why he was allowed such space.

01:32Arnold Slott said after the game that the Pools, they usually mark Zonal and they have three men marking,

01:38but Dan Byrne is 6'7", and the nearest player to him was Alexis McAlister, he's 5'9".

01:43There were a couple of warning signs before that.

01:46Newcastle just didn't let Liverpool play, I thought the press was excellent.

01:51They made Liverpool play long, they tried to use Mo Salah as the out ball.

01:55Dan Byrne, who was man of the match, stepped out of position.

01:59Man of Mo Salah, just after Newcastle scored, the Pools had the first real opportunity to equalise.

02:08It was a half chance just before the break.

02:10Mo Salah pulled the ball to the box, headed back by Luis Diaz.

02:14Diogo Jota, whose form continues to stutter, skewed well-wired at times.

02:20Second half, you thought Liverpool might come out and do something, play through the third a little bit more.

02:26They had a couple of good moves, but Newcastle continued to threaten from set-pieces.

02:34They had one goal disallowed from Alexander Isak from a set-piece,

02:40but a minute later Liverpool didn't heed the warning signs.

02:44Isak, that man, the Newcastle talisman, was on the score sheet.

02:49Jacob Murphy headed a ball back from goal.

02:52There was Isak, peeled off his man to finish into the far corner.

02:57The Pools rallied somewhat, but Newcastle carried on and continued to pose a threat.

03:02They looked dangerous.

03:07Kelleher made a really good saving goal from Isak.

03:11In stoppage time, Liverpool nested a consolation goal, but that's all it was.

03:17It was Federico Chiesa, who came off the bench for the first time in a month and a half.

03:23It was his first appearance.

03:25The two subs he was combining, Harvey Elliott playing a really nice pass-through and Chiesa finishing.

03:30He was left offside, but VAR viewed the incident and deemed that he had stayed on.

03:36But after that, it wasn't like Liverpool were really probing Newcastle's goals.

03:43They didn't do anything.

03:45As I say, they were deserved to run us up in the competition.

03:49They won it last season, but they travelled back to Merseyside to run us up.

03:56We were hoping there would be no hangover because they went off the Champions League earlier this week.

04:00If Liverpool got a massive lead, it would be an absolute calamity if they did lose the Premier League title.

04:09There are some problems to sort out in the summer for Arnold Slot, particularly forwards.

04:16The old Jota form is really jettisoned.

04:19Dale Nunes didn't do anything when he came on.

04:22There's problems in the top end of the pitch in the striking position, left wing.

04:28There was Diaz, who wasn't great.

04:30Mo Salah was really subdued.

04:33He was shackled.

04:34Ryan Gravenberchuk was tired.

04:36Liverpool needed someone to add cover and competition there.

04:40Right back, Gerald Kwanzaa, isn't a right back.

04:43He didn't have a great game.

04:45It will obviously depend on what happens there.

04:49There are questions for Arnold Slot to answer.

04:54Liverpool have had a game for 16 days.

04:57That's a major set of data against Everton.

04:59They've really got to improve from that.

05:02That'll be the game at Anfield.

05:05They'll make it physical, just like Newcastle did today.
