02:35Hülkenberg and Bortoletto are the two that we're watching now.

02:38And here is the salvo of Gabriel Bortoletto.

02:42He is the current reigning F2 champion.

02:46The year before that, he was F3 champion.

02:49Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri, George Russell did exactly the same thing.

02:52His pedigree is high.

02:53And this lap gets him out of the bottom five

02:56at the expense of Kimi Antonelli.

02:59We're into Q2 and Max Verstappen is giving it everything

03:03through Turn 5 and 6.

03:05He's massively quick through that section of the track.

03:07Really brave with the car.

03:09But they've improved it dramatically since yesterday.

03:12This is going through the cycle lane there.

03:14And now we're looking for a tiny little kerb on the left hand side,

03:17trying not to hit that wall on the right on the way in.

03:20Oh, and he had to do a correction in the middle there.

03:22That's not the best we've seen of Max through that corner of the red bull.

03:26And that means you just hesitate a little bit.

03:28You lose speed all the way down the next straight.

03:30You lose a little bit of confidence.

03:32As you know, the back end of the car is coming unstuck a bit,

03:37but he's still on route to a half tidy lap time.

03:41I wonder if that's an indication there of what he was saying at the end of Q1.

03:44My tires are not holding on for the whole of the lap.

03:47He just didn't get the grip that he wanted.

03:49Either way, it's a 1.15.6 for Max Verstappen.

03:52And he's about four tenths faster than his best time in the first part of qualifying.

03:56Next across the line will be Charles Leclerc.

03:59It's a 1.15.8.

04:01So behind the red bull of Max Verstappen.

04:05Four tenths off in FP2.

04:07Just under two tenths off in FP3.

04:09And about six thousandths of a second faster than that in Q1.

04:14This is maybe why Alonso pitted.

04:16Oh, yeah, I think that's why he pitted, Martin,

04:18because he went onto that kerb and he might want to have a look at that.

04:20Yeah, you're almost guaranteed to damage the underneath.

04:24Oh, dear, oh, dear, oh, dear.

04:26And then that's impossible to repair during a qualifying session.

04:29You are allowed to repair genuine damage.

04:32You can demonstrate before the race tomorrow, but you do not want to be out there.

04:37Turn ten, left hand side, correct?

04:43Yeah, even lifts the front wheel off the ground.

04:45Watch his right front to our left there.

04:49It lifted it off the ground.

04:51There's not a whole lot of droop suspension travel on these.

04:54George Russell is just at the fastest middle sector on his latest flying lap.

04:59And DRS has been disabled because someone has gone off on the middle part of the lap.

05:04And it's Lewis Hamilton that has stopped and spun as Lance Stroll doesn't make his way out of the bottom five.

05:11Jack Dewan can carry on as he's past the scene.

05:13And that is Lewis Hamilton in the middle of the track.

05:16Not where he wants to be.

05:18Six fastest and now just a tad vulnerable.

05:21Yeah, Dewan's had to navigate an awful lot of slow traffic.

05:25Has that compromised him as he goes over the line?

05:29And Dewan, 13th, he won't go through to the top ten shootout, but still a good effort.

05:34So there will have been yellow flags.

05:36A lot of people will have had their lap times compromised by Lewis Hamilton's spin.

05:40Piastri goes through. He is the fastest driver in this session.

05:44Verstappen, just starting his last flying lap, has gone quickest through the first sector.

05:49Isaac Hadjid trying to get out of the bottom five.

05:51Hasn't made it by just under six one hundredths of a second.

05:56Much to the relief, I'm sure, of Carlos Sainz, who crosses the line

06:00and improves to go seventh fastest ahead of Tsunoda.

06:03And this man, his teammate, Alex Albon, who stays ninth fastest.

06:07Gasly is on the cusp.

06:10I'm just trying to see who might be able to challenge him.

06:12Fernando Alonso is the only one that might have that challenge in that bottom five.

06:18But here comes Max Verstappen.

06:20A bit wide through the penultimate corner.

06:22Two personal bests or two fastest of anybody so far.

06:25Verstappen goes over the line and stays with that scruffy end of the lap third.

06:30Yeah, if you push too hard too soon, your tires aren't there for you at the end.

06:35As Lando Norris goes quickest in the second part of qualifying.

06:39Fernando Alonso only makes it 12th fastest.

06:42Lewis Hamilton had his spin, but he will make it through,

06:45as will Pierre Gasly in 10th for Alpine.

06:49That's a strong qualifying for him.

06:52They go again and Tsunoda there in eighth doing a fine job,

06:55saying in his crash helmet, no doubt I should be in the Red Bull.

06:59Maybe better off where he is.

07:01Whoops, lost it on the way in.

07:03And you've got a massive pendulum effect

07:06when your engine and gearbox starts overtaking you.

07:09There is no way back.

07:11Matt, remember on a set of tires that are already done one flying lap

07:15and he backed off for a couple to cool them down

07:18and it was just overheating at the end of the lap.

07:22Let's have a look at Gabriel Bortoletto and his experience through turn four.

07:28He was heading to the car park.

07:30The car started to bounce before he hit the kerb,

07:34so he arrived at the kerb slightly unstable and then it finished it off for him.

07:38But he dialled in just enough counter-steering.

07:43Session of the season. Ferrari have problems.

07:47You can see Charles Leclerc scanning the data out on track.

07:51This was one of the many moments

07:55that weren't going quite as smooth as he would have wanted.

07:57He's been noted by race control for a possible impeding incident.

08:09So we have Q3 then and the race for pole.

08:14Not since 2005 here in Australia have both Williams reached Q3.

09:34Here comes the man who's been on pole for the last two years at Albert Park.

09:41He's on the second row with the Mercedes of George Russell.

09:45It is Orlando Norris starting this campaign

09:49the way that he finished the last campaign by taking pole position.

09:54Unless somebody can do something about it, that somebody could be Lewis Hamilton.

09:59He's been on pole eight times here before.

10:01If anyone could do it, he certainly can in Albert Park.

10:04And he crosses the line to go sixth fastest only behind his teammate

10:09Charles Leclerc, who pits from fifth place.

10:12Now, here come the Williams.

10:14Carlos Sainz, last year's winner.

10:17Eighth fastest.

10:18Really good effort from Williams in this qualifying.

10:20But can Albon go that little bit quicker than his new teammate?

10:24Yes, he can.

10:25And he goes faster than the two Ferraris of Leclerc and Hamilton.

10:30Outstanding from Alex Albon and the Williams team.

10:33Out-qualifying Ferrari who have looked on the back foot pace-wise all through.

10:38Nice job from Gasly as well.

10:40Tsunoda can finish the lap and go fifth.

10:43That's sensational from Yuki Tsunoda.

10:45I don't know why we weren't watching that,

10:47because his timing through the first and second sector

10:50put him right on the cusp of that top five appearance.

10:53And that is Yuki Tsunoda's best ever qualifying in Albert Park.

10:57It's Lando Norris' best ever qualifying.

11:00Leclerc and the pre-season favourites, the pre-season pace-setters

11:04have gone and bagged the first season.
