At least 14 people were killed as powerful tornadoes tore through Missouri and parts of the US Midwest and Southeast overnight, leaving widespread destruction in their wake.

00:44A meteorologist at the National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center said 26 tornadoes
00:50were reported, though not all have been confirmed to have touched down.
00:54The storms, fueled by a low-pressure system, swept across Arkansas, Illinois, Mississippi,
01:00and Missouri late Friday night into early Saturday.
01:04The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported tornado-related deaths, including two in the
01:09Bakersfield area of Ozark County and a third in Butler County.
01:14No details were provided on the remaining fatalities.
01:18Forecasters warn that the tornado threat remains high into Saturday night as storms continue
01:23to strengthen.
