Chicago river dyed green for St. Patrick's Day  A St. Patrick's Day tradition which has endured for over 60 years, continued on Saturday, March 15, in the midwest city of Chicago, Illinois.  Thousands flocked to downtown Chicago to watch the city's river turn a rich shade of green in honor of the Irish-themed holiday.  Since 1962, the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Local Union 130 has been pouring 40 pounds of dye into a quarter-mile stretch of the river to help it turn that vibrant green hue. 00:00Me and my friends and different friends have been here many, many, many years, and it's

00:03always, every single year it's exciting.

00:05I love the energy and people are just in a good mood.

00:08Like people you don't know say hi, everyone just has a great spirit.

00:11So if nothing else, even if you're not Irish, it's a great time to be in Chicago.

00:30I think we have a bigger celebration of St. Patrick's Day here in Chicago than we do in

00:59Ireland.

01:11Feel great.

01:12We have beautiful weather.

01:14We've never done this.

01:15We've lived here our whole lives and we're just excited to be in the city.

01:19We're from the Burbs, so this just feels good to be down here right now.

01:23It's fun to kind of go out and celebrate it.

01:25I mean, I've done it when I was younger and that was definitely in a different way than

01:28having my kids now.

01:29So yeah, so to be able to share this with them and just kind of have them experience

01:34the fun that, you know, that the young adults have and obviously in a more innocent and

01:39different way.

01:40But yeah, it's cool to have them out here.
