Ashwini Vaishnaw calls Tamil 'sweet', says barriers shouldn't hinder progress

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw praised Tamil language and culture during his visit to Tamil Nadu. He emphasised respect for all Indian languages and urged unity to strengthen the country and boost its global influence.

00:18But very nice, very sweet language. I was lucky. I had a professor, Sadagopan, at IIT

00:25So, he introduced me to… In North India, we generally know Tamil as masala dosa only,

00:32right? So, he taught me so many different types of… so many facets of Tamil culture,

00:41very deep culture, very ancient culture. We all respect the Tamil culture. We all respect

00:48the Tamil language and this is one of the assets of our… of our country. This is also one of the

00:55assets of the world and let's take pride in that, let's take… let's take joy in that and let's

01:02enjoy all the Indian languages. That is the spirit with which our Prime Minister is working today,

01:10making sure that every Indian language gets its big place under the sun, make sure that they get

01:20the respect which is due to them, make sure that they get the exposure. For example, I'll tell you

01:27one small thing. In the telecom and the data protection laws, our Prime Minister inspired us

01:37and he said that why should the notice be only in English? Why shouldn't the notice be in all

01:45the Indian languages? Whatever notice that we see in… whenever we sign up to a service or sign up

01:53to an app, so that inspired us and in the law itself, we have said that all the languages

02:02in the constitution must be available as a choice to the users. That is the thought process of our

02:12leader, Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji. So, let's get above this, let's make sure that these

02:21things which… which sometimes come in the way of friendship and relationship between

02:29different civilizations, between the different people, between our own brothers and sisters,

02:37those barriers should not come. We should all look at one big goal of making our country

02:43very, very strong, making sure that we become the third largest economy,

02:48making sure that the world recognizes our soft power. Thank you very much.
