So here we are at Newcastle United's media centre. I've just been speaking to Eddie Howe,
00:05
Brunon Gimaraes and Alexander Izak ahead of Sunday's Carabao Cup final with Liverpool
00:12
anticipation is building. Of course the cup final now is around 48 hours away. A lot of you guys,
00:19
a lot of fans heading down to Wembley either today or tomorrow to soak up the atmosphere and yeah
00:27
what can you say about the Carabao Cup final? It's a game that means absolutely everything
00:32
to Newcastle United and I think that message was sort of relayed by Eddie Howe and the two players
00:38
this morning. They know what it means for Newcastle to go there and potentially win
00:43
a long trophy drought, 70 years without a domestic trophy and yeah a real opportunity to end that
00:48
this weekend. They're coming up against the best team in the country, probably still in Europe
00:53
despite their Champions League exit at Paris Saint-Germain in midweek. So the task couldn't
00:59
be harder but a sense of real determination within the dressing room to make sure Newcastle United
01:05
come home with that trophy. Eddie Howe was first up here because as I say a lot of big build-up
01:12
around the final. Crucially confirmed there was no fresh injuries of course. Last week was a real
01:17
challenging one for Newcastle United losing Anthony Gordon in the suspension and Lewis Hall
01:23
and Sven Bortman to longer-term injuries as they undergo surgery or have undergone surgery
01:28
this week. The West Ham win was massive in that respect. It gave Newcastle something to build on
01:34
and inject a little bit of confidence ahead of Sunday but yeah they also came through unscathed
01:38
as well which of course is very very important. Then Alexander Isaac when he came into the media
01:46
centre after Eddie Howe was asked about his fitness, declared himself fully fit, said that
01:52
his injuries were dramatic. He's fine, he's trained so no concerns there which of course
01:59
if Newcastle are to get a result I suspect Alexander Isaac will be front and centre. I'm glad
02:03
he missed the visit to Anfield a few weeks back now because of a groin issue and Newcastle didn't
02:09
really lay a glove on Liverpool but I think every time Alexander Isaac comes up against Liverpool
02:15
he looks dangerous and the game Newcastle had against Liverpool at St James' Park earlier on
02:21
absolutely tormented Liverpool's back line. Virgil van Dijk was given a tough evening so
02:26
Virgil van Dijk is probably the best defender in the world but Alexander Isaac is certainly capable
02:31
of giving him a tough afternoon and that's what Alexander Isaac will be tasked with doing
02:35
at Wembley on Sunday. Contract situation on him while we're on the subject of Alexander Isaac,
02:43
not a lot. He said really he was asked if he'd be open to talks, he said it would probably be
02:48
a talking point at the end of the season but again didn't really commit to an answer as you
02:52
wouldn't really I suppose that you know he's just focused on the on the final so I understand
02:57
Alexander Isaac's response but yeah there's nothing too much to read into there. The player
03:01
is under contract until 2028. Darren Eales said last week when he spoke to the media that they
03:06
would approach or address that situation this summer so I don't think we'll be hearing any
03:10
update on Alexander Isaac's future until then and certainly not this weekend ahead of the
03:14
Cowboy Cup final because that takes centre stage of course it does. Nothing else matters really on
03:19
hindsight this week apart from Sunday and yeah fingers crossed they can go there and get the
03:26
results and bring back the trophy and I think I suspect Keita as well, I talk about Isaac,
03:31
Bruno Gamerais is another player who will be absolutely vital and he was a man that spoke
03:36
like he's ready for war after that West Ham win on Monday. A fantastic post-match interview
03:44
really got really tugged at the heartstrings of many Newcastle fans and it was a rallying call
03:49
not just to support us but his teammates as well so I suspect as I say he'll be front and centre
03:54
and he's already visualized what it would be like to walk up those Wembley steps and hold Newcastle's
03:59
first trophy in 70, first domestic trophy in 70 years and he'll be the first captain since Bob
04:05
Moncur in 1969 in the first cup win to lift the trophy so look it's been so long. Newcastle
04:11
went there a couple of years ago against Manchester United lost hopefully now they're back there you
04:15
can somehow find a way to do it so yep we'll have full coverage across the weekend from myself,
04:22
colleagues Liam Kennedy and Charlie Bennett. We'll be at Wembley from Saturday, we'll be at Covent
04:28
Garden and then of course all the big build-up to Wembley on Sunday so stay with Newcastle World
04:34
we'll have everything you need.
