Japanese Group Sounds rock band, formed in Yokohama in December 1966. The group covered a wide range of UK and US rock, blues and soul songs. They released ten singles and several albums before splitting up in 1971.
They were marketed by their agency as being a 'half'-Japanese (mixed race) group, in keeping with the popularity of US- and UK-inspired rock music of the time, hence their stage names 'Dave', 'Eddy', 'Mickie', 'Louis', 'John', etc. Louis Kabe was said to be half-French, Eddy Ban half-British. In fact only Eddy Ban was ethnically non-Japanese (born to Chinese parents in Yokohama's Chinatown); Kenneth Ito, although born in Hawaii, was Japanese-American (both parents of Japanese descent).
