What time will I be able to see the eclipse on Thursday night?

If you're wondering when the best time to look up at this month's lunar eclipse will be, AccuWeather's Anna Azallion has answers for you.

00:00Well, a very exciting astronomy event is coming up in just a little bit.

00:05Thursday overnight into Friday is going to be a total lunar eclipse.

00:11Now, this map shows you where it'll be visible.

00:13Lucky for all of us in the continental US,

00:16all 50 states will be able to see the lunar eclipse.

00:21Now, up towards Alaska, there's just a little bit of Alaska where you're in

00:24the total eclipse at moon rise zone rather than all eclipse visible.

00:29But for the continental US,

00:30we will all be able to see the lunar eclipse weather cooperating.

00:34But here's a look at when to go outside because it is in the middle of the night.

00:392.58 AM Eastern Time, that is the max eclipse time.

00:42Now, the eclipse starts just before 2.30 in the morning and

00:46lasts just after 3.30, but 2.58, that is the peak time for you to see the eclipse.

00:52Now, of course, the way time zones work, the time is altered by just in hours.

00:56We go to Central Time, Mountain Time, Pacific Time.

00:58So depending on what time zone you live in,

01:10Now, part of this eclipse is, it's known as the blood moon.

01:14And that's because the moon will often appear red,

01:16just like what you're seeing on the right side of your screen right now.

01:19Let's talk about why.

01:21Now, during the eclipse, the sun is completely blocked by the Earth, right?

01:25But the sunlight, as it goes towards the Earth, there's a little bit that gets

01:30through and makes its way to the moon, kinda indicated by the lines here.

01:35It goes through the Earth's atmosphere, though, and

01:37that is what makes the moon appear red.

01:40As NASA explains it, it'll look like all of the Earth's sunrises and

01:44sunsets are projected onto the moon.
