Duterte’s arrest 'proper and correct' — Marcos  Former Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte "was arrested in compliance with our commitments to Interpol," says President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Speaking after a plane carrying Duterte took off, heading to The Hague, Marcos insists "we followed every single necessary procedure" in carrying out the International Criminal Court and Interpol warrant, "you will find that it is proper and correct." 00:07Hours before his arrival, Interpol Manila received an official copy of the ICC warrant.

00:16This prompted the Prosecutor General of the Department of Justice to serve the warrant.

00:22Interpol asked for help and we obliged because we have commitments to the Interpol

00:29which we have to fulfill. If we don't do that, they will no longer help us

00:37with other cases involving Filipino fugitives abroad. This is what the international community

00:45expects of us as the leader of a democratic country that is part of the community of nations.

00:55Well, we followed every single necessary procedure. We had a very good basis on which to

01:07serve that warrant and to redeem his rights. We followed all the legal procedures that are

01:13necessary. So I'm confident that if in further examination, you will find that it is proper

01:24and correct. This case started in 2017 when we were still members of the ICC

01:36and it was during the time of former President Duterte. So I don't see how that can be political

01:48persecution on my part because it was initiated before I even came into the picture.
