A cold start, with patchy frost and ice across northern and western areas in particular. Frequent showers affecting northern and eastern Scotland and norrtheastern parts of England, some heavy and wintry over high ground. More isolated showers developing for Wales and southwest England, with the driest and brightest conditions across western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Temperatures by the afternoon will be a little below the seasonal average, and it will feel cold in a northerly wind.  - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 12/03/2025. 00:00Hi there. The chilly theme will continue over the next few days with a mixture of sunshine

00:04and showers. So, scenes like these will be expected. Shower clouds one moment and then

00:08brief sunny interludes the next.

00:10It's a cold start out there this morning. Some patchy frost and ice, particularly across

00:13the north and the west of the UK. But fairly frequent showers moving down across northern

00:18eastern parts of Scotland, northeastern parts of England as well. These heavier in places

00:21and wintry over the higher ground. Isolated showers developing elsewhere across Wales

00:26and southern counties of England. With the driest and sunniest conditions today, perhaps

00:30across western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

00:33Despite the temperature on the thermometer reading 7, 8 or perhaps 9 degrees today, it

00:38is a little bit below average for the time of year. And when you factor in the wind chill,

00:42which will be fairly brisk on these northern and eastern coasts in particular, it will

00:46feel more like 3 to 5 degrees. So quite a cold feeling day out there, particularly where

00:51you are exposed to that northerly breeze and feeling sub-zero in the far north of

00:55Scotland.

00:56So, a cold evening to come tonight. Those temperatures plummeting as the sun goes down.

01:01Showers for a time this evening, but generally tending to fade away inland as we go through

01:05the overnight hours. Persisting though for many northern and eastern coasts through the

01:10course of tonight. And still falling as a mixture of sleet and snow across the highest

01:14ground. So, we could see some patchy ice on the highest routes, perhaps across Scotland

01:18and Northern England, across the Pennines. A slight covering of snow perhaps above about

01:22400 metres.

01:24The clearest and driest conditions to foot across Northern Ireland, western parts of

01:27Scotland, Wales and Western England. And it's here where we like to see the lowest temperatures

01:31tonight. So, there will be a frost in the countryside and temperatures may fall as low

01:35as minus 4 or minus 5 across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland in particular. Probably

01:40just about holding up above freezing for most towns and cities further east, particularly

01:45on those coastal regions where the breeze will keep temperatures a little bit higher.

01:49But nonetheless, tomorrow morning will be starting cold for most of us. There will be

01:53some frost and perhaps some patchy ice in places too. Quite a lot of cloud across more

01:57eastern parts of the UK. Still a fair number of showers moving through on that northerly

02:02flow. And again, a mixture of hail and sleet perhaps down to lower levels and some snow

02:07over the higher ground.

02:09But further north and west, generally a bit of a drier day to come. Yes, there will be

02:12quite a lot of cloud, but still some brief sunny interludes in between those showers.

02:17And the wind won't be quite as brisk tomorrow as it will be today. So, it won't feel quite

02:22as cold as it will do today. Temperatures still, though, a little bit below par for

02:26the time of year. Highs of between 6 and 9 degrees for most of us.

02:30So, as we go through the next few days, this area of high pressure that's currently sticking

02:34out towards the west of the UK will start to drift its way slowly south and east across

02:40the UK. There's ice bars spacing out apart, so the winds will start to ease down and we

02:44will see plenty of dry and settled weather by the time we get to the weekend. Plenty

02:47of sunshine, but widespread overnight frosts, but generally a lot of dry weather through

02:52the weekend ahead.
