Cyber attack on X: Elon Musk claims Ukrainian IP addresses involved

Elon Musk reported a massive cyber attack on X, formerly Twitter, originating from IP addresses in the Ukraine area. The platform faced multiple outages worldwide.

01:13Elon Musk Tesla facilities in US take down protest. Most Tesla take down.

01:18Protests have been peaceful but a few have been destructive with fires intentionally set at the Tesla showrooms.

01:25The pictures are from Seattle and these are pictures of the protesters essentially.

01:30There's been arson that has been reported.

01:33Showrooms and charging stations in Colorado and Massachusetts last week.

01:39I'm going straight to Shashank Mathu getting in more details on that story this morning.

01:43Shashank, what has happened here?

01:46Sneha, at this point in time the emerging reports are that a hacker group known as Dark Storm

01:53has claimed responsibility for the attack on X.

01:58There were tens of thousands of reports of outages really around the world even from users here in India.

02:05Dark Storm is an activist hacker group that has targeted countries as well as individuals

02:12who have supported Israel's military campaign in Gaza.

02:17So it's a pro-Palestinian hacker group.

02:19It is not exactly clear what Elon Musk said, whether he said the attack originated from the Ukraine area

02:25but from what I'm seeing and what I'm feeling is that hacker groups are able to use IP addresses from all over the world.

02:33So it may indeed be that.

02:35And of course Elon Musk at this point in time as we were just pointing out

02:38has really become the focus of a great deal of political controversy.

02:43There are protests against Tesla, there are protests against his political influence in the Donald Trump administration

02:50and of course the Trump administration also happens to be very pro-Israel.

02:54So Dark Storm has claimed credit on Telegram for this attack on X.
