Sunshine Coast residences still bracing for heavy rainfall

The Sunshine Coast is bracing for possibility of heavy rain tonight. The mayor is urging residents to continue to heed the warnings.

00:06I'm distraught, mate. I'm just about to burst into tears, tell you now.

00:11I've been crying all morning.

00:13The boat moored at Bribie Island suffered a battering.

00:16Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred dealt a large blow, but could have been worse.

00:21It's been a bit of a fizzer compared to what we were expecting.

00:24That's a good thing, I suppose.

00:26We got a lot of wind, a lot of wind.

00:29Yeah, but we did all right.

00:31Strong winds continued as the tropical low hung around.

00:34The worst for the Sunshine Coast lies ahead with the rainfall that is coming our way.

00:40Up to 200mm could fall overnight.

00:43So what I do say to people is keep their preparations in place.

00:47But Noosa should be spared.

00:49The rainfall is predicted to be a lot less than what we've just heard, 30 to 100mm.

00:55Beaches have been stripped.

00:57Onlookers took in the new landscape at Twin Waters.

01:00Families who spent an anxious night with little ones were keen for fresh air.

01:05We were going to take the mattress into the lounge room last night

01:07and just kind of have a movie night in the lounge room.

01:10But again, it didn't quite pick up enough where we got to that point.

01:13A nearby coffee shop, Tooka Panten, opened its doors.

01:17We were not expecting it to be so busy, but everyone else closed.

01:21Customers keen for a caffeine hit after a long night.

01:24I try and keep up to date with just like what's going on,

01:27but I don't know, I feel like the surf's pumping, the sun's out.

01:33It's all good.

01:36Here at Golden Beach residents are relieved

01:38ex-tropical cyclone Alfred didn't deliver the gale force winds they were threatened.

01:43The community on the ocean's edge will continue to watch the tides over the coming days

01:48and their sandbags remain at the ready.
