00:11He restored the glory of Britain's monarchy, brought fun and frivolity back to court and

00:16reigned for 25 years.

00:19But on Friday, the 6th of February, 1685, Charles II was dead.

00:26The cause of death has been hotly debated ever since.

00:30A post-mortem was carried out at the time, but it was hurried and inconclusive.

00:35Now I'm going to launch a new investigation with a royal autopsy.

00:44I'm Professor Alice Roberts and I'm joined by Dr. Brett Lockyer, one of the country's

00:49leading forensic pathologists, to reinvestigate the death of King Charles II.
