R. Kelly may be behind bars ... but he proved his vocal chords are as free as ever during a rare podcast interview when he serenaded the audience by singing two snippets of his songs.

00:15R. Kelly may be coming back. R. Kelly called in to the Inmate T with A&P podcast.

00:22From a federal prison in North Carolina where he's serving 30 years for various misdeeds.

00:28He sang for them. He sang When a Woman's Fed Up and Step in the Name of Love.

00:32And the two hosts, two women, were really into it.

00:35It ain't nothing you can do about it. Nothing you can do about it.

00:41Singing the background vocals and swooning. They were fully swooning.

00:44I was like, wait a second. Is R. Kelly not canceled? I guess he isn't.

00:48According to them, 2025 is a different universe.

00:52Well, the podcasters, April and Patricia, joined us on TMZ Live

00:55and say they are taking a little bit of heat for doing the interview in the first place.

00:59We're just two individuals who are able to separate the art from the artist.

01:05But again, it's R. Kelly. And when R. Kelly calls, you answer.

01:09Singing is a beautiful disease that's uncurable.

01:12And right now I'm just working on getting back to what I get my talent to do.

01:18Here's the thing. It's okay to listen to R. Kelly music

01:21because the money goes to the victims. That's actually really interesting.

01:25One thing's for sure. I'm gonna put on my dancing shoes.
