Coggle Police may have passed over crucial clues in the mass murder investigation.
00:20
You have to understand that detective work was organized in a very different way in the 70s.
00:28
Edmund Kemper
00:43
Unlike many murderers on this list,
00:45
the tendency of Edmund Kemper to violence was already known when he began to kill in series.
00:51
On August 27, 1964, 15-year-old Kemper shot and murdered his grandparents, Maud and Edmund.
00:59
He called the police and was taken to a psychiatric center.
01:11
Kemper was a model prisoner and over time he was considered very intelligent and rehabilitated.
01:18
However, Kemper's psychiatrists were not convinced,
01:22
arguing that he was not well and warning that more acts of violence could occur if he was released.
01:29
His warnings were not attended to and Kemper was released on his 21st birthday.
01:37
This was in December 1969.
01:40
Less than three years later, between May 1972 and April 1973,
01:46
Kemper would murder eight more people, including his mother, Clarnell.
01:57
D'Angelo Martin
02:05
Between 2018 and 2019, D'Angelo Martin murdered four people in the Detroit metropolitan area.
02:13
However, an exhaustive study carried out by Associated Press
02:17
discovered that Detroit had received warnings about Martin for almost two decades.
02:24
They claimed that for 15 years the city police had manipulated the evidence that linked him to several crimes,
02:31
such as the loss of elements in 2004, which could have linked Martin to a sexual assault.
02:37
They also ignored personal warnings and did not handle DNA properly.
02:43
A supervisor described it as a total systemic collapse
02:47
and two officers were suspended for neglecting their duties.
02:51
It is believed that if they had taken the appropriate precautions,
02:54
Martin would have been caught before he killed someone.
03:08
Bruce MacArthur
03:18
Between 2010 and 2017, Bruce MacArthur terrorized the church and Wellesley neighborhoods in Toronto,
03:25
killing eight people.
03:27
This neighborhood is known for its LGBTQ activity
03:30
and offers many bars and stores aimed at the community.
03:34
A PhD candidate named Sasha Reed warned the police that there was probably an active serial killer in the area,
03:42
but nothing happened.
03:56
The locals asked the police to investigate,
04:00
since a large number of homosexual men were disappearing.
04:04
Once again, not much happened.
04:06
Some people blame discrimination,
04:09
since the victims were part of a marginalized community.
04:12
A report written by Ontario judge Gloria Epstein
04:16
stated that the Toronto police lost important opportunities to identify him as the killer,
04:23
often due to their erroneous concepts or stereotyped ideas about the gay community.
04:30
I'm curious about why he did what he did,
04:32
and I'm more curious about how it happened for so long,
04:35
and how the community knew this was happening before the police alerted us.
04:41
Peter Sutcliffe
04:43
The serial killer, Peter Sutcliffe, known as the Yorkshire Ripper,
04:46
has died in hospital at the age of 74.
04:48
He had coronavirus.
04:50
Nicknamed the Yorkshire Ripper,
04:52
Peter Sutcliffe murdered at least 13 women in 1975 and 1980,
04:59
just like MacArthur took advantage of a marginalized community
05:02
that he knew would go unnoticed,
05:05
in this case, the sex workers.
05:08
It was quite obvious, even from the beginning,
05:11
that Sutcliffe was a serial killer.
05:13
Dozens of people warned Yorkshire police about Sutcliffe,
05:18
including survivors, crime analysts,
05:21
Sutcliffe's friend Trevor Birdsall, and even the FBI.
05:30
Is he a Geordie?
05:32
No, no.
05:33
What's his name?
05:35
He said Peter Sutcliffe.
05:37
Now listen, boys.
05:38
Peter Sutcliffe, man,
05:40
Peter Sutcliffe is not the Yorkshire Ripper.
05:44
In fact, Sutcliffe was interviewed nine different times,
05:47
but they let him go each and every time
05:50
thanks to a horrible police job
05:52
and a casual indifference towards the sex workers.
05:56
A report written by Inspector Lawrence Byford
05:59
harshly criticized Yorkshire police,
06:02
which led to systematic changes in the country's investigation procedures.
06:27
The result of injuries from an assault
06:29
by another inmate at Port Cartier Institution in Quebec.
06:57
He admitted killing 49 women.
06:59
We think that he killed probably closer to 100.
07:03
He had absolutely no remorse.
07:05
He brutalized the women.
07:27
And an anonymous notice stated that he had a freezer full of human remains
07:32
in his country house.
07:34
But this information of nightmare was completely ignored.
07:57
Despite having a huge number of deaths,
08:00
Gary Ridgway is not as famous as other murderers.
08:04
Known as the Green River murderer,
08:06
Ridgway was convicted of 49 murders,
08:10
although it is possible that he committed more than 90.
08:13
He was not caught until 2001.
08:15
However, he was an important suspect in the case for almost 20 years.
08:27
His name was mentioned in 1983
08:29
when Mary Mulbar's boyfriend
08:31
found the truck in which he had disappeared
08:34
parked in front of Ridgway's house.
08:37
The police were also receiving other leads that accused Ridgway,
08:41
which led them to accuse him and interview him.
08:44
However, the polygraph test passed
08:46
and the investigators could not link him to the murders,
08:50
so he was released.
08:56
Dennis Rather
09:10
Famously known as BTK,
09:12
Dennis Rather killed 10 people in the metropolitan area of Wichita
09:17
between 1974 and 1991,
09:21
often making fun of the police with deaf letters.
09:24
At that time, Dennis was quite modest,
09:27
known as a quiet and reserved security specialist.
09:41
But as he aged, Dennis became more frank and confrontational.
09:45
Throughout the 1990s,
09:48
the locals began to have problems with Dennis,
09:51
especially in his strict official quality of compliance.
09:55
He also became known for harassing women
09:58
and numerous victims filed restraining orders against him.
10:02
A neighbor even claimed that Dennis had killed his dog.
10:06
The signs were there,
10:08
but the police did not investigate further.
10:11
If they had done so,
10:12
it is possible that they would have discovered
10:14
one of the most infamous serial killers in the country.
10:22
John Wayne Gacy
10:34
According to all reports,
10:36
John Wayne Gacy was a kind and popular man
10:39
who was active in his community of Chicago.
10:41
But some people tried to speak against him,
10:44
specifically Marco Butkovich.
10:47
Marco John's son worked for Gacy's construction company,
10:51
PDM Contractors,
10:53
when he disappeared in 1975.
11:07
According to Butkovich,
11:09
he had problems with his boss,
11:11
whom he had confronted for unpaid wages.
11:14
Then, when his car appeared with his jacket and wallet still inside,
11:18
Marco suspected that Gacy had murdered his son.
11:22
He and his wife called the police more than 100 times
11:26
during the next three years,
11:28
urging them to investigate and interrogate Gacy.
11:31
They didn't do it.
11:32
Butkovich was Gacy's third victim,
11:35
the third of 33.
11:45
Ted Bundy
11:53
Despite his infamy,
11:54
Ted Bundy was a pretty careless serial killer.
11:58
Many people survived his attacks,
12:00
he was jailed on numerous occasions,
12:02
and friends and acquaintances had suspected for a long time
12:06
that he was a murderer.
12:08
A series of murders occurred on the west coast during 1974.
12:13
A robot portrait was made public
12:15
and a criminal profile that described the culprit,
12:18
and many people recognized him immediately as Bundy.
12:34
This includes two co-workers of Bundy,
12:37
a professor at the University of Washington,
12:39
and even his girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer.
12:42
They all went to the police
12:44
and told them that Bundy was the man they were looking for.
12:47
However, the investigators were not convinced
12:50
and ignored their statements,
12:52
since Bundy was a respectable law student
12:55
without criminal records,
12:57
a wolf with sheepskin.
12:59
There were something like 3,000 potential Teds
13:02
who may or may not drive a Volkswagen,
13:04
and he was one of them.
13:06
But he had this terrific, spotless, clean record.
13:09
We haven't reached the end yet, but almost.

13:22
Jeffrey Dahmer
13:23
Oh, hey.
13:24
I gotta say, that smell is worse than ever.
13:29
Is it?
13:33
Well, you know, I had that meat.
13:35
It went bad.
13:36
The people who saw Monster may have thought
13:39
that Glenda Cleveland's character was made up,
13:42
a kind of compound character created
13:45
to represent all the people
13:47
who tried to alert the police about Dahmer.
13:50
But no, she was very real.
13:52
Cleveland, his daughter, and his niece
13:55
contacted the police to warn them about Dahmer,
13:59
even warning them about the terrifying incident
14:02
that involved Conorac Synthesamphon.
14:12
The young man was returned to Dahmer's care,
14:15
and there he was murdered.
14:17
After learning that Conorac had disappeared,
14:20
Cleveland made repeated calls to the police,
14:23
and even contacted the FBI.
14:25
All these calls were ignored.
14:28
Dahmer murdered four men after Conorac,
14:31
without Cleveland's alarms being heard at all.
14:49
Do you know other examples?

Cuéntanos en los comentarios.
14:53
I'm an American, and I went off the deep end.
