How to Reference Option 1 – Matching Photo Method in SketchUp
The Photo Matching Method in SketchUp allows you to use a reference image to create a 3D model with accurate perspective. Follow these steps to match a photo and build your model accordingly:

Step 1: Import the Reference Photo
Open SketchUp and go to File Import.
Select the photo (JPG, PNG) you want to use.
In the Import window, choose "Use as New Matched Photo" and click Open.
Step 2: Align Perspective with the Photo
After importing, you’ll see red, green, and yellow guidelines.
Adjust these guides to match the edges of buildings or objects in the image:
Red & Green lines: Align with horizontal edges.
Yellow (Vanishing Point): Helps define depth.
Move the origin point (the square) to the bottom corner of a known reference point.
Step 3: Create the Base Model
Use the Rectangle (R) or Line (L) tool to trace the base of your object.
Use Push/Pull (P) to extrude the shape into 3D.
Continue adding details by tracing the photo.
Step 4: Apply Materials & Fine-Tune the Model
Open the Materials Panel (Window Materials).
Apply textures from the matched photo to surfaces.
Adjust shadows to match the real-world lighting conditions.
Final Tip:
Use high-resolution images for better accuracy.
Ensure the camera settings in SketchUp match the perspective of the original photo.
