00:00Hi, my name is Holly Alton and I'm a food and drink writer for National World.

00:04Today I'm going to be making pancakes using a simple hack.

00:07Now I have never made pancakes in my life before,

00:10so I've chosen to do it in a very easy way and I'm going to see how it turns out.

00:15I'm going to be using a pancake shaker.

00:18This is basically pre-made pancake mix,

00:21which you put some water in and add to the pan and hopefully fry up some delicious pancakes.

00:26The instructions are step one, add 290 millilitres of cold water to fill line.

00:32Replace cap, invert the bottle and tap lightly on the work surface

00:36to loosen the mix from the base of the bottle.

00:40Shake for two minutes or until mixture is smooth.

00:42Two is to preheat a seven inch frying pan over a medium to high heat.

00:47Add a small amount of oil to the pan, enough to lightly coat the base.

00:51Pour approximately three tablespoons of pancake batter over the base of the frying pan

00:55to form a thin pancake.

00:57Step three is to cook for one or two minutes,

00:59gently easing the pancake from the sides of the pan.

01:02Pancake will be ready to turn slash flip when the batter moves freely from the base of the pan.

01:07Turn or flip the pancakes and cook the other side until golden brown.

01:11The final step, step four, is to serve with an assortment of sweet or savoury toppings.

02:14okay, it's time to dig in. I did make a few mistakes along the way.

02:18I actually decided to just pour in loads of batter

02:21because the tablespoon thing didn't seem to be working out too well

02:24but then I had too much pancake.

02:27So yeah, I think I flipped too early with the first pancake

02:32which means that I think I still might have some liquidy batter in this-

02:36in the first pancake and then the second pancake

02:39I think actually cooked too much and the fire alarm went off.

02:42But overall they look okay.

02:44I added some golden syrup.

02:46I would have added bananas too but sadly I don't have any

02:49but this will do for now just to figure out how these pancakes taste.

02:54You know what? I actually think they're really delicious.
