US President Donald Trump and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron shared some light-hearted moments during their meeting at the Oval Office in Washington, D.C. on Feb 24.  Trump recalled a dinner in July 2017 at the Eiffel Tower during his first term as president when Macron started speaking in French without a translator present. 00:05President Trump, as he said, will be meeting with President Trump.

00:08Everything is still to be built, and I cannot postpone the discussions.

00:12But we share the same objective, and what we discussed this morning,

00:15an hour after the videoconference together,

00:17and what we will continue to work on, are, for me, good progress.

00:20About this, this is just a moment ago.

00:23This is extension.

00:24I just want to tell you a little story.

00:25So we're at the Eiffel Tower having dinner with your wonderful wife

00:29and with my wonderful wife, and we came out,

00:32and he started speaking the French deal.

00:35And we didn't have an interpreter, and he was going on and on and on,

00:39and I was just nodding, yes, yes, yes.

00:41And he really sold me out, because I got back the next day,

00:44and I read the papers, and I said, that's not what we said.

00:47He's a smart customer, I will tell you that.

00:51And so, what we have prepared, in particular with our British partners,

01:00in the context of a very close work that we have carried out in recent weeks,

01:03and shared with all European countries and allies who are ready to join,

01:08is the idea of saying, we are ready to bring these security guarantees.

01:11The conditions must be defined.

01:13They must be defined by the agreement.

01:17It can go as far as sending, as the President said,

01:20troops who will observe, who will respect, who will position themselves,

01:24not on the front line, not to be in the conflict,

01:30but to mark a presence as a guarantee.
